Crime is down significantly in the last year.

Housing demand remains ridiculously strong.

Business revenues remain firm, though the commercial real estate in the central business district remains a post-COVID challenge.

Quality of life and demand for people moving to DC remains quite strong.

So no, maybe not so crime riddled and dirty as Trump makes it out to be.

DC is a crime-ridden dump and I can’t wait for Trump’s clean up. The city has not gotten less dangerous. People have stopped reporting crimes because the cops aren’t empowered to do their jobs.

In case you need reminding, this is our present reality: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13619911/amp/washington-dc-assault-man-chased-teenagers-crime.html

Like others, the man in the video didn’t file a report. See the trend?

Cute.

"People stopped reporting crimes"? Where are the statistics on this? What is this data? You just making up sh*t to feed a narrative? Based on a single anecdote?

DP so homicides are down because people stopped reporting dead people? You think people don't report when their CAR is stolen, especially if at gunpoint??

I'm sorry, but that's just quackery. It could be debatable if people report petty crime like stolen packages, but you are in tin foil hat land over there.

Hi tin foil hater, please come back to us with two simple, objective numbers.

Yes about petty crimes. Obviously not about homicides. SMH

Fukc off. I actually live here and The crime is as bad as it has ever been. Manipulating the stats doesn’t change the reality on the ground.

People keep saying that, so maybe you feel like it's true because you keep hearing it.

Either fix DC or move the US capital elsewhere -- Atlanta, Miami?

Hahahahaha. Have you been to Atlanta or Miami lately. DC is the most beautiful place on earth compared to those cities.

Funny you ask that. Yes, recently been to both, and both are a million times more functional and diverse than DC.

Well aware that homicides are down vs. last year though not the long term trend in the past 15 years-ish, though we haven't yet had time to form a new long term trend. Generally homicide trend IS down w/ 94 YTD a little over halfway through the year which will put us slightly over 2019 if doubled

You said "DC is a crime-ridden dump and I can’t wait for Trump’s clean up. The city has not gotten less dangerous. People have stopped reporting crimes because the cops aren’t empowered to do their jobs"

Which insinuates that people are not reporting violent crimes since you specified danger. If you meant people stopped reporting petty crimes, then say so, but if you are insinuating people are less likely to report violent crimes or major theft like a carjacking.... well, I don't believe you without statistics. It's just made up conjecture.

How does cutting 50,000 federal jobs and installing loyalists help DC? Most federal workers don't live in DC.

It doesn't. Federal workers appointed with major US policy questions to address do not care one bit, nor have time, to address local DC issues.

DC courts would be better managed with local control than relying on federal appointments to deal with trying local carjacking cases, etc. - as already evidenced by our existing and current court system failures and backlog.

This is a pipe dream by the 5% of GOP people who live in DC though it does seem all 5% of them make up the majority of the DCUM Metropolitan DC Local Politics board.

You can't move the Capitol. DC was a compromise and historical location. Miami will be under water soon and the US Capital should not be in Atlanta, Georgia.

So, like the elected AG (responsible for juvenile crime) and the elected Council? That would be…better?
