Republican platform echoes Trump's vows for greater control over D.C.

Oh and actually do something with the large RFK site but the random senator Daines from Montana blocked that in committee (because he doesn't care one iota about the DC residents who live near that parcel of land).

You’re right. Let’s just keep going with the status quo.

My point is that if you think DC is slow to respond, turn it over to the Feds and it will be even slower. If you think that federal control by people who answer to constituents in other states will expedite a better outlook for DC, I have a bridge to sell you. ALREADY, congress doesn't do sh*t to even help us with an unprescedented backlog of judicial appointees causing our court system to be bogged down such that we can barely try cases. GOP is the party of small and local government, but someone from Utah is going to give a sh*t about the concerns of DC residents in ward 8? My @ss. And yes, I also am fed up with the current DC government, but also fed up with how existing federal control of DC already has us at a standstill.

I've lived here for 20 years, have only voted for Democratic presidents, and I think this is actually a great idea. The city should be safe for all residents and visitors and it's currently insane. Maybe I'll actually be able to let my middle schooler take the metro to school without worrying.

My guess is that this would be a major priority for Trump because it will show the entire country that it is possible to have safe cities and every Democrat mayor will look like a fool. The way he was able to mobilize federal assets to DC during the BLM riots was impressive.

The key is that it would be for a limited time as well. Just long enough to purge the existing power structure, and not long enough to ossify the new one. In a one party town like DC, this is the only way to clear out the junk.

Presidents already appoint prosecutors in DC. Just seeking harsher sentences would go along way to removing criminals from the streets

Crime is down significantly in the last year.

Housing demand remains ridiculously strong.

Business revenues remain firm, though the commercial real estate in the central business district remains a post-COVID challenge.

Quality of life and demand for people moving to DC remains quite strong.

So no, maybe not so crime riddled and dirty as Trump makes it out to be.

Fukc off. I actually live here and The crime is as bad as it has ever been. Manipulating the stats doesn’t change the reality on the ground.

+100. There’s surely a package of federal reforms that could help DC and be welcome by all/most - particularly steps to improve the courts & fix the dysfunction in the US attorney’s office, crime lab, judicial vacancies. But nobody’s drafting that bill because, surprise, they don’t actually care.

Sounds good to me. I have always voted for moderate republicans and independents in DC (yes, I actually research who I vote for). Also, moderate Dems like Tony Williams whom I adored. We are moving due to the general crappiness, but as a DC native I wish all good to the city. This couldn't come soon enough.

How are stats manipulated? DC MPD have a dashboard updated daily. You just a conspiracy type, if you don't want to believe numbers, you just make up outlandish theories?

DC is a crime-ridden dump and I can’t wait for Trump’s clean up. The city has not gotten less dangerous. People have stopped reporting crimes because the cops aren’t empowered to do their jobs.

In case you need reminding, this is our present reality: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13619911/amp/washington-dc-assault-man-chased-teenagers-crime.html

Like others, the man in the video didn’t file a report. See the trend?

Title: Dystopian moment terrified man is chased down by pack of smirking teenagers in Washington DC

Cute.

"People stopped reporting crimes"? Where are the statistics on this? What is this data? You just making up sh*t to feed a narrative? Based on a single anecdote?

DP so homicides are down because people stopped reporting dead people? You think people don't report when their CAR is stolen, especially if at gunpoint??

I'm sorry, but that's just quackery. It could be debatable if people report petty crime like stolen packages, but you are in tin foil hat land over there.

Liar with an agenda. FYI, Trump didn't do a darn thing last time except make a big fake show of violating residents civil rights with a helicopter.

People keep saying that, so maybe you feel like it's true because you keep hearing it.
