Do you make your kid take showers

Same here. It's just a part of daily habits and routines I myself have.
I really don't understand these people who bathe every few days. Gross.

Because lots of people don't. So clearly it is a question. I've never daily showered in my life and I'm mid 40's.

Crusty underwear wearer says what?

Harvard Med agrees with me.

Also, the oils, perfumes, and other additives in shampoos, conditioners, and soaps may cause problems of their own, such as allergic reactions (not to mention their cost)… While there is no ideal frequency, experts suggest that showering several times per week is plenty for most people”

Pre-puberty - every other day ideal but it often slips. The shower itself I think is nbd but it’s the hair brushing prior that’s always the battle

If they swam, played sports, have lots of sunscreen or bug spray, or if they are visibly dirty - yes. I ask them to take a quick shower with soap all over the body, but they don’t have to wash their hair. I have boys with short hair and I have told them that sleeping with chlorine in your hair is not good for it, but they don’t care and it’s not my hill to die on.

Not PP, but if your underwear is "crusty" if you skip ONE day of showering, then you have other hygiene problems. I shower most days but sometimes miss a day because of a jam-packed schedule or because I don't work out or leave the house and decide I don't need to. I have never in my life had "crusty underwear." I change my underwear twice a day and have good bathroom habits. The main reason I shower daily is because I like to get off the sweat and any grime from walking in the city, driving my car, etc., that might build up. Not because I'm using showers as a replacement for wiping my butt and wearing clean underwear as needed.

I am a daily or close-to-daily showerer and this is so obvious that I think it's weird people argue with it. I shower daily because it feels good, and I use it as a divider between my workday and my evening (I generally shower in the evening after working out, which I do right after wrapping up work). I actually feel guilty about how much water I use by showering daily. But I wouldn't say I *need* to shower every day, I just like to. Some days I definitely need to shower (any day I'm spending lots of time outside, work up a big sweat, beach and pool days, long travel days, for instance) but most days all I do is run a few errands, work from my home office, and do a 30-40 minute barre or yoga class. Unless it's really gross outside, that's simply not enough to merit *needing* to shower.

My children play hard outdoors and take a short, water conscious shower before bed almost without exception. Wash and rinse hair, and wash bottom; they are still small (11 and 8) so no body odor and they don’t do a body wash so it doesn’t irritate their skin. This washes off sweat, salt, pollen, dirt, and assorted chocolate ice cream and Moby dick kebab detritus. Their sheets and bedrooms are kept clean. I can’t imagine letting them get into bed with dried sweat and worse all over them!!! Guys, the nightly shower is a gift a d as much a part of the routine as brushing teeth. In this world of war and famine aimed at innocent children, the greatest privilege is tucking your kids into clean and safe beds at night and kissing their freshly washed heads. Bliss. Connection to the universe and ancestors. A sigh of the soul.

16:06 above and I grew up in rural South America where water was scarce and we STILL took a quick shower every night before bed.

My kid is in flag football after being in school all day for 1.5 hours 3 days a week. He takes a shower on those days. Yesterday, afterschool we went to the park for 1.5 hours and he ran like a tiger (yes on all 4s its impressive) through long grass for about 20 minutes. Tick check plus a shower.

He averages 5-6 showers per week because of activity. Kids, when playing properly, get sweaty and dirty and grassy and need to shower, especially during the summer months when its hot and during spring with the pollen.

If he has a lazy day around the house then he doesnt have to shower. It sounds like your kids need to be outside with the opportunity to get dirty more.

I’m sorry you didn’t have daughters.

NP. I have daughters and my kids life is similar to what this poster describes. In the spring, summer and fall we do a nightly tick check. They play outside in mud and tall grasses. Bakijg a mud concoction in the sun has been a favorite activity for all my children at once age regardless of gender. I have found small bugs I my daughters hair during shower after playing outside. We only skip showers if we have been inside all day.

Mine are the dolls/playdoh/friendship bracelet type, not the mudd and tall grass type. They bathe twice a week unless we go to the pool or beach, etc.

This is gross. Their nether regions must smell terrible.

Showers for my kids got a lot easier once I got a shower bench. Like the kind used for old people. The novelty of being able to sit or lay down in the shower successfully lures them in.

In the winter we do every 2-3 days for my pre-pubescent kid. We also have a bidet to keep things fresh in between baths.

You still have crusty underwear though? Your DH must enjoy your stank though

Dirty or sweaty they shower. Otherwise no. We only do hair 1-2 times a week.

Really gross especially in the dc hot and humid summers

What does underwear have to do with how often you bathe? You can change your underwear daily or 2x a day without bathing.
