Do you make your kid take showers

My kid is in flag football after being in school all day for 1.5 hours 3 days a week. He takes a shower on those days. Yesterday, afterschool we went to the park for 1.5 hours and he ran like a tiger (yes on all 4s its impressive) through long grass for about 20 minutes. Tick check plus a shower.

He averages 5-6 showers per week because of activity. Kids, when playing properly, get sweaty and dirty and grassy and need to shower, especially during the summer months when its hot and during spring with the pollen.

If he has a lazy day around the house then he doesnt have to shower. It sounds like your kids need to be outside with the opportunity to get dirty more.

I’m sorry you didn’t have daughters.

NP. I have daughters and my kids life is similar to what this poster describes. In the spring, summer and fall we do a nightly tick check. They play outside in mud and tall grasses. Bakijg a mud concoction in the sun has been a favorite activity for all my children at once age regardless of gender. I have found small bugs I my daughters hair during shower after playing outside. We only skip showers if we have been inside all day.

Mine are the dolls/playdoh/friendship bracelet type, not the mudd and tall grass type. They bathe twice a week unless we go to the pool or beach, etc.

This is gross. Their nether regions must smell terrible.

Because lots of people don't. So clearly it is a question. I've never daily showered in my life and I'm mid 40's.

How would you know do you sniff ass?

thank God I taught my children to take a shower 1 time a day before going to bed, and also to brush their teeth. To do this, I had to brush my teeth in the evening, too, to show them an example, and my children, after coming to the bathroom, also brush their teeth. Of course, I had to bribe them that for each brushing of teeth they would receive $ 1 each, as well as $ 2 for taking a bath. Parenthood is a time of compromise, hopefully they won't want to raise the fee...

95% of the time yes. If they get back super late or they're not feeling well, I would let them skip a night, but with active athletic kids (particularly those who are tween and beyond with body odor), skipping a day is not a good thing. I also think that a shower helps kids sleep better at night if they've relaxed and aren't dirty/sweaty from the day.

Crusty underwear wearer says what?

Not PP, but if your underwear is "crusty" if you skip ONE day of showering, then you have other hygiene problems. I shower most days but sometimes miss a day because of a jam-packed schedule or because I don't work out or leave the house and decide I don't need to. I have never in my life had "crusty underwear." I change my underwear twice a day and have good bathroom habits. The main reason I shower daily is because I like to get off the sweat and any grime from walking in the city, driving my car, etc., that might build up. Not because I'm using showers as a replacement for wiping my butt and wearing clean underwear as needed.

You change underwear twice a day?!

This sounds like a personal problem. I’ve never experienced this. Maybe get it looked at.

Harvard Med agrees with me.

https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/showering-daily-is-it-necessary-2019062617193#:~:text=While%20there%20is%20no%20ideal,reasons%20to%20shower%20more%20often).

“However, daily showers do not improve your health, could cause skin problems or other health issues — and, importantly, they waste a lot of water. Also, the oils, perfumes, and other additives in shampoos, conditioners, and soaps may cause problems of their own, such as allergic reactions (not to mention their cost)… While there is no ideal frequency, experts suggest that showering several times per week is plenty for most people”

You still have crusty underwear though? Your DH must enjoy your stank though

Sorry that my vagina leaks and my preparation H leaves a residue. Please tell me why I should be ashamed for normal bodily functions?

This explains why so many kids stink! We will have kids over and the funk is crazy. My kids shower most nights. My boy with long hair washes it every other day. My short haired boy every day. I try to get them to alternate sneakers too to keep those from getting too funky.

That is disgusting.

I have to be firm sometimes and “make” them. Otherwise I try to let them make their own decisions. Ages 10 and 12.

It's one (disgusting) thing to not shower daily. It's another (delusional) thing to try to convince others that not showering daily is somehow the correct thing to do.

Anonymous wrote:Yes. I actually tied allowance to showers because he hates them so much. $2/shower. It's taken away a lot of the complaining.

You’ve also taught your kid that you’ll pay them to comply - if I was your kid I’d see how far I could push that. Throw a fit - get money - throw a fit - get a toy. Good job.
