Is 50+ too old to wear tights / yoga pants out in public?

Leggings are not pants. I will die on this hill.

+1

It’s a little more acceptable if they’re a solid dark color but OMG I’m so glad the Lularoe moment is over.

LOL to the outfit you linked. It just looks like they forgot to put the schoolgirl skirt on the model. Seriously, if you walk around in that you just look like you forgot to put on pants after your long underwear!

Mom?!

This is not an insult. I’m sorry your own mother failed you.

I'm 53 and just started wearing leggings - dark, not see thru, not skin tight - in the last couple of years. I work with kids and comfort is key. Many of the younger people I work with show up for work in pjs or sweats, so I'm not worried about wearing leggings.

Leggings can 100% be pants if you have a thin body for them. I am a size 2 and love wearing leggings. They look cute on and are flattering. I will die on this hill.

I mean… you can look great in a bikini but it doesn’t make it appropriate to wear to the grocery store.

It doesn’t matter what size you are or what you look like… leggings, which very much includes any form of skintight stretch pants such as yoga pants, are inappropriate to wear in non-exercise venues. If you are an adult woman who does this you give the impression that you are either 1) an idiot who can’t figure out how to dress herself, or 2) an attention whore.

Clearly you don’t know how to style leggings. I wear them all the time with a sweater or other cute top and basic sneakers like Vejas. There’s nothing inappropriate nor attention whore about this type of outfit. Sorry you can’t pull off anything fitted.

I think...is that a man in the first pic? If you look like that, you look like a man in those clothes.

I just got a pair of Vuori Daily leggings. I'm 57.

I WAH and exercise every day. Just turned 54. I'm still muscular, fit. Don't have saggy or flat butt---but I still generally like to wear a cover-up that covers my butt if I run errands coming from the gym or class.

I run in yoga pants, lift in yoga pants, do pilates in yoga pants, lift heavy at the gym in yoga pants.

Every woman in my neighborhood can be seen in yoga pants (close-in wealthy neighborhood). Some of the older women look better than the 20-30 somethings---all sizes are in them.

Are we looking at the same picture or does your racism also affect your eyesight?

I'm not going to change into jeans or slacks every time I have to leave the house. The whole concept of your age dictating what is appropriate to wear (once you reach adulthood) is silly to me. If it looks good, makes you feel good and/or it's comfortable, wear it!

You could wear diapers too, that way you don’t have the horrific inconvenience of going to the bathroom like an adult every time you need to pee. Why should only babies and toddlers get to wear them?

DP. Oh, sweetie, I wear Depends under my leggings. You reach a certain age and things just don't work like they used to.

As an old woman, I disagree. Leggings will never be out for old women anymore.

What part of 'older women have no more f@$ks to give' don't you understand? We're done. We'll wear what we want and not give a f@$k about what you think.

This is the answer, especially for GenX, unlike the boomers, we have no more f's to give about what anyone thinks about our clothing.

I am from the west coast, middle aged, and agree with no Fs given about what others think of my attire. I wear yoga pants when I want and where I want. This is the only place I have ever lived where certain people have such a hang up about atheleisure being worn while running errands or having lunch. If it is good enough for the wealthiest people in far more fashionable cities across the west, it is damn sure good enough for this notoriously unfashionable city.

I am more embarrassed for people who dress a particular way for lunch or errands. I imagine they give zero Fs about what I think so it all works just fine.

I'm 60 and do all the time. I really don't give it any thought.... I probably should more than I do.
