Deeny was at Blair for two years before she became principal at TPMS. But I do not believe that she will go back to Blair, although she is one of the few who could probably manage Blair.

She was? When she left she told the TPMS community she’d been there for 22 years.

Yes, she was one of the APs at Blair. I remember Ms. Johnson congratulating Deeny on her appointment as principal at TPMS, while at the same time regretting that she only had her for two years at Blair.

Ah, so she has a track record of going back to a school where she is loved (years at TPMS, brief stint at Blair and back to TPMS)! Looking forward to her appointment at Blair!

Makes a lot of sense. She'd be perfect for the job, but not sure how they'd entice her.

Ms. Deeny has been doing a great job at RM! I hope she stays for many years.

Never say never, but Alicia Deeny lives in the Cabin John area, so much closer to Rockville, than 4 Corners in SS. With the hours that a principal works, commuting distance is a real consideration. Plus, Deeny has worked hard to successfully unite and lead the RM community - no one walks away from that easily.

Why would a current high school principal leave their school, where they are respected/loved and is close to home, for a lateral move? They would not! She moved up from the middle school because it was a promotion. Trust - you are getting a current intern or a Blair AP that moves on up. No experienced administrator from another district is applying to MCPS while we have this big mess going on.

Seriously, MCPS is in real trouble. All of the other experienced administrators are going to leave and the schools will be left with inexperienced, less knowledgeable people at their helm. This is so sad.

Not a lateral move. Blair is the largest high school in Maryland.

The size of the school doesn't matter; the title and pay grade is exactly the same. It is a lateral move.

And hate to break it to you but SVHS is now the biggest high school in the state.

By population, Blair is the largest HS in the state. By sq footage Seneca Valley is- but not even close to Blair by population.

Blair has around 3200 students and Seneca has about 2500 students. I am not sure if that includes the students that come partial day for the CTE programs.

That's fine; different view of biggest.

However, it still doesn't make a ptincipal's move from RM to Blair a promotion. It is lateral move.

Who cares which is larger? One is west upcounty the other east downcounty. Next.

Once the CAP departs for Woodward HS (and yes, that will happen, no matter the pretend study that is scheduled), the character of Blair will change significantly.

Between that change, the school's name change, and just managing a very large school population, I would say Renay Johnson has chosen a good time to retire. She has done a fantastic job!

There has been no discussion of moving CAP. Several years back, there had been discussion of creating a new performing arts magnet at Woodward, but there have been no updates to that in awhile, and now that Woodward's size has been reduced, there will be little or no room for it to host a magnet of any type.

The discussion was related to whether size of school constituted a promotion or not. RIF...NEXT!

Largest high school is ALWAYS determined by number of students not the physical building!

Still doesn't take away from my main point - size doesn't matter in terms of promotion. It would still be a lateral move.

But would it be a promotion, or a lateral move?

It is not a lateral move. There is more money given based on the size of the high school.

Also more prestige!
