Put down the crack pipe. These are not Tulane's peer schools. |
Richmond is stronger academically. |
I have multiple family members that live in NOLA, including within walking distance to Tulane. Their neighbor was robbed and killed in his front yard. My family and all their friends hire armed security if they’re hosting a party at night. We have close friends whose family have been natives of NOLA for at least four generations and who also lived walking distance from Tulane who just moved out of state bc they couldn’t deal with the crime anymore. Don’t pretend that there aren’t major crime concerns around the Tulane campus. We won’t allow our kids to apply to Tulane even though I do think it’s a good school and have had several friends who had great experiences there. |
Not necessarily disagreeing with what you are reporting, but our DC is a junior, the school is obligated to report to students incidents of crime in the vicinity of the campus, we’re also on the parent FB page and we have not heard the types of things you are indicating apparently happen with some frequency. |
| I went to Richmond (many years ago), and would probably prefer Tulane, with one caveat - the distraction potential. I had a hard enough time focusing at UR, and that's with a social scene that tilted heavily towards on-campus, particularly for the first couple years. It's even money that I wouldn't have graduated on time at Tulane, and my grades definitely would have suffered. |
+1 My DS visited both because they both have a specific degree program he wanted. He preferred the less preppy, Greek vibe at Tulane. But Richmond was his second choice. The campus is gorgeous. |
Do u realize that Tulane’s ed acceptance rate is 68 💀💀💀 I’m going to Richmond cuz I got in rd after being deferred, even tho I got into Tulane RD which is like 2% acceptance rate I only applied cuz the fee was 0, it’s not even close that Richmond is the better school |

I feel like if you want to stay in Virginia/NJ/NY/DC, then Richmond.
But Tulane is more well known for what that's worth. |
My kid almost went to Tulane. To be fair, it is only really hard to get in as a non ED admit. |
Fact or opinion? |
| Tulane has more name recognition nationally, is in a much more interesting city, and is more diverse. |
Cite that Tulane has more name registration? |
| Tulane would be my preference by a large margin. Size, location, research opportunities, national reputation are all in Tulane’s favor. |
It has name recognition as a party school. |
| Richmond is in a beautiful and very safe part of the city. It’s a small school with a $3 billion endowment. But I’ve heard it’s tough socially. A little snobby. |
