If I recall correctly, the school does have a football team (but not sure about cheerleaders).

yea, spoiled children produce these results

Top feeders to engineering #1

Top feeders to Wall Street #10

Top feeders to Silicon Valley #8

you realize those places are full of spoiled kids, right?

Those kids are usually very motivated hardworking independent bright kids.
I don't know what's your definition of 'spoiled kids'.
Spoiled kids usually come in backdoors and majoring in easy stuff like the Obama daughters.
They don't major in hard stuff like CS, Engineering, Business.

One of Obama's girls went from umich to USC.

What were their majors?

something like communications, media, environmental studies?
and I'm sure she'll get a nice easy fancy job thanks to daddy.
that's what we call spoiled kids.

It is not in a very safe location imo. DTLA adjacent and neither are very nice/safe. Check out UCLA instead.

Again, UCLA is worse.

No need to look at UCLA if OOS.
I would pick USC if price is the same.

If the price were the same, broaden the horizon. Include Rice, WashU, NYU, Vandy, Duke, NU, U of ND... For the same price, why not choose a school a whole notch above USC in a safer surroundings?

That's same for UCLA.
Duke is definitely a level up overall.

Again depends on what you are getting into.
For Business, USC is better than Rice, Vandy, WashU,
For CS, USC is better than Vandy, WashU, ND, NU, NYU
For Engineering, USC is better than Vandy, WashU, ND, NYU

Above may be true -:assuming the student survives the area. For those in the DMV area unfamiliar with Los Angeles, imagine USC smack in the middle of the worst part of DC or NYC. The student has to have a plan of weaving and dodging every time s/he has to leave or get back to the campus. Good luck.

At least the off-campus rent will be cheap in Watts. The area is still recovering from the 1965 Watts riot.

Nashville and Houston aren’t cities I’d pick for the safety comparison, . .

Tens of thousands of USC students manage to do just fine with the campus setting. It is not comparable to the worst part of NYC (and what is the worst part of DC? I don’t actually know).

This is accurate!

Also for those who are interested in CS and AI, USC is investing 1 BILLiON in an advanced computing initiative. New building opens Fall 2024, 30 new Faculty in the next 3 years. UCLA and the other cash strapped UC schools just won’t be able to compete long term.

My kid was rejected from USC last year. We visited and it has perhaps the nicest campus we saw, and we toured a number of schools. I absolutely would have been fine sending my kid there in terms of safety. The student body was diverse and USC offered the most comprehensive presentations we saw, with college specific sessions in addition to the general info session and tour. It’s a very hard admit for a reason, lots of kids want to attend.

DP this is hyperbole at its finest lol. My DD is a sophomore at USC, she leaves campus all the time without an advanced plan of dodging and weaving. She j walks.

Yes, everything they do, they do well. My kid did a free summer program there. Their resources are deep.

Are you the one who wrote the hyperbolic post about USC’s dangerous location…equivalent to the worst of NYC & DC? 🤣

The only thing left to do is a tour of the campuses. Go from USC South Central to UCLA Westwood, or vice versa.
