USC is often UCLA's rejects choice. The stats bear this out. For a public university with an affordable tuition, UCLA isn't too shabby compared to USC in terms of engineering, wall street, silicon valley placements.

Nope, UCLA rejects probably go with UCI, UCD, UCSD, etc.
You can probably find many Stanford rejects at USC.

USC was the only West Coast school that my VA kid applied and attending with half tuition merit.
It's little bit more than UVA. Yes, college pricing system in the US is bullshit, but my kid got lucky.

If I was a CA resident and price is the same, I would choose USC.
Only reason to choose UCLA would be if full price USC vs instate UCLA.

UCI, UCD, UCSD are not at the UCLA level. UCLA rejects flush with cash will choose USC because USC is a crosstown rival.

USC is not seen as an ivy plus rejects' choice. That would be WashU. USC is a notch below WashU; hence, twice removed from ivy pluses.

Uh.. yes, so UCLA rejects go there.
If price is the same, I would choose USC.

WashU maybe for pre-med?
I would definitely choose USC for CS, Engineering, Business over WashU.

and of course for the School of Cinematic Arts.

For those who are admitted to USC and NYU, the choice is NYU for the bold.

USC SCA acceptance rate is 2-3%, probably the lowest program in the US.

3. NYU

whatever, is AFI even a college for undergrad students out of HS??

Whatever, why would anyone choose to be surrounded by ghettos when they could be in NYC?

Again, Google how many parents sent their kids to USC - only to return to USC to pick up their bodies in caskets. What a horrible thought.

It's about 2 notches down from most kids' dream schools. Most donut hole families in SoCal don't even apply to USC. Most HSs in this region send very few students to USC.

Those kids are usually very motivated hardworking independent bright kids.
I don't know what's your definition of 'spoiled kids'.
Spoiled kids usually come in backdoors and majoring in easy stuff like the Obama daughters.
They don't major in hard stuff like CS, Engineering, Business.

No need to look at UCLA if OOS.
I would pick USC if price is the same.

If the price were the same, broaden the horizon. Include Rice, WashU, NYU, Vandy, Duke, NU, U of ND... For the same price, why not choose a school a whole notch above USC in a safer surroundings?

Lived there for years. UCLA is ideally safe, nice, and college feeling. USC isn't. SNS.

That's same for UCLA.
Duke is definitely a level up overall.

Again depends on what you are getting into.
For Business, USC is better than Rice, Vandy, WashU,
For CS, USC is better than Vandy, WashU, ND, NU, NYU
For Engineering, USC is better than Vandy, WashU, ND, NYU
