Friday snow

Why? Why? Why? is everything cancelled tomorrow? And Sunday? Sometimes I think the people who make these decisions hate kids. My kids SO look forward to their rec basketball games. It's such a short season. So disappointing.

It's impossibly lame and just kind of lazy.

The County facilities will be open too.

How do they justify it? On weekdays you could say stuff about buses and navigating the streets. On weekends, how can they justify? The county was open today, but schools closed.

I don't know. No one cares enough or complains I guess.

Some slight thought to the fact that we pay taxes and these are services and facilities the community pays for would be nice on occasion from APS. No reason to cancel the whole weekend. Probably you could justify nothing before 10am or noon tomorrow.

There’s going to be major ice tomorrow

Yet somehow when the time comes everyone will be out driving around.

The main roads are clear to pavement and no accumulation to refreeze where I’ve driven today.

They will also continue to treat and plow overnight.

All weekend is nuts.

Arlington, continually, blows at all levels.

This. I’m surprised they didn’t throw “out of abundance of caution” into their announcement

I see there might be some ice, but can’t they wait to cancel until the ice is actually on the ground? There might be no ice! Is it logistically necessary to cancel when we will know in the wee hours of the morning how much ice we are going to be dealing with.

And it would not involve a lot of employees having to make their way to work. And participation in rec sports is voluntary—no one would feel compelled to venture out unless they felt comfortable doing so. My kids are in rec basketball and I might not feel comfortable driving them tomorrow but there is no reason for every game at every school to be canceled.

We shoveled earlier, and everything was clear. Just went out to get some food and the stairs/walkways are ice!

There is still liability when members of the public are on school grounds. There also has to be a representative usually low level employee who gets the buildings open/cleaned/locked back. Additionally, not all sidewalks and parking lots are totally clear at all the schools yet.
