As a follow-up to our message on Friday, January 19, all Arlington Soccer indoor clinics on Sunday, January 21 are CANCELED.

Although APS has decided to open buildings on Sunday, the Department of Parks and Recreation, who provides Arlington Soccer with permits for the facilities, has notified us that they are unable to confirm the support and facility readiness needed to open the gyms.

Again, unfortunately, Arlington Soccer will not be holding any indoor clinics at APS Facilities on Sunday, January 21.

Great work, APS.

Staffing is an issue everywhere. You going to volunteer to help with snow removal, etc?

I don't think that's what they're saying. It looks like no one is answering the phone at APS to confirm to DPR that they will have the specific buildings open on Sunday. I don't know why you're acting like APS didn't mess this up.

lol. Syphax isn’t even in the office on workdays. Now you expect them to be there on a weekend?

Re-starting this thread to complain yet again about APS' ridiculous snow call. Cancelled all of today's stuff at 3 pm yesterday before a flake fell. Event is over with basically no accumulation. Even Fairfax only cancelled the morning today, and everyone would be open all day if they had waited to make a 6 am call. It's not even a school day, so it's not like you can say they did it because of the bus drivers, etc.

I agree and genuinely do not understand how APS gets away with this stuff on the weekend calls. They are closing public buildings just...because. No reason really. Sorry didn't work for us today.

Wake up at 7am and make the call then.

Agree. It's irresponsible governance. I said last time that I think the people who make these calls don't really care about the kids and I stand by it. Many people said I was ridiculous, but look out the window this morning and you tell me if the people deciding yesterday that today's stuff didn't matter were thinking much about the kids and what they care about.

The County opens all its buildings. It's an APS issue. Ridiculous.

Also fun fact anyone who was supposed to show up and do their job today at an APS still building still gets paid.

No way that is true for referees, gym monitors, etc. I am sure those are all hourly people who lose money when these cancellations happen.

Why aren’t you possed off at the forecasters who predicted 3-5 inches? How have they escaped your wrath?

Those are county hired people. But good point. The APS permanent staff who are supposed to open the buildings get paid and these other people lose money.

Dumb post. We all know the forecasts are unpredictable which is why the call shouldn’t be made at 3pm the day before.

I am not one to normally get mad about snow closings, but this one was ridiculous. Maybe we didn’t get quite as much snow as forecasters predicted, but even with 3-5 inches, they consistently said it would be gone by sunrise and that it wouldn’t stick to the roads or stick around. No justification for closing buildings and cancelling activities all day.

Truly I am not happy with them, either. I don't get how they keep calling 3 inches of snow when the temp is above freezing. But also, APS should know these calls are often wrong. So often wrong. So they can make wait to make calls, cancel for shorter periods of time, etc. I also feel bad for the W&L kids supposed to be having a play tonight. What a waste.

Yikes. Canceling theater shows is a huge deal. So much work goes into it and very few performances. Sorry for those kids and families.

They are adding a show Sunday to make up for today’s show.

You’re right. We can only blame APS for this.
