To a point, I liked the idea that Rory would get less grounded and make realistic/understandalble mistakes as she became less sheltered (BUT LEARN FROM THEM!!!), while Lorelai got more grounded with age and experience and the show hit that at a couple of points (I thought Rory missing Lorelai's graduation was a great moment), but they absolutely went off the rails with Rory and ultimately didn't really do much with Lorelai. The reboot/continuation was a mistake that completely trashed what was enjoyable about the series. |
Kirk’s older brother in real life (James Gunn) directed the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, which is one reason he’s in so many of them. |
YES. They should have re-cast Adam Brody and had Lane end up with him. |
Love Paris! |
I don't even remember April and I watched til the bitter end. Need to look that up |
Yep. He’s a babe |
Yes |
I am not sure about that. I’ve read in an interview with the creators of the show that the “Mom, I am pregnant” line was with them from the beginning as the ending for the show, and the whole series was just an arc to that. But they were dismissed from writing the last season so the show didn’t end that way, and they used it on the reboot. |
It’s interesting to me that everyone thinks Lane has an awful life. Why is it awful? She seems happy enough with her life.
I agree that the reboot was character assassination for Rory. |
Lorelei without question |
Guy with backwards hat on all the time. Total dufus.
But my kids adored the show. |
I don't think Lane has an awful life. I just think Lane had a lot more potential than waitress at Luke's diner, married to an immature doofus, who got pregnant on her honeymoon and didn't even have a good time with the sexuality that she was finally allowed to express. The show has a very clear dichotomy - you either go to the Ivy League and leave Stars Hollow or you are working class for the rest of your life. Lorelei is an exception, but only after toiling in the working class for almost 20 years. Why couldn't Lane have worked for a couple of years after high school and then have gone to UConn or something. Rory is back in Stars Hollow all the time. Lane could have done the same. A great arc in the last season would have been for Lane to come home engaged - maybe even to Adam! - with a good job lined up so she can make sure her mom can work less and help her with kids...someday. |
I actually feel like Lane in the reboot has a much happier life than she would have going off to UConn and then - I don't know what! Working in marketing or something? She has a family, a home, a community. She has a husband she seems to like a lot (in the reboot - not in the original series). She doesn't seem to be struggling financially. I'd much rather be Lane than Rory, at reboot time. It's just that they really messed things up for her in the original series - her marrying Zach, who was such a doofus in the original, and then getting pregnant on her honeymoon. It was pretty sad. I didn't want sad for Lane. |
Kirk and Taylor. So annoying. |
I absolutely would have watched a Lane Kim spin off where she goes off to college in California (maybe Loma Linda University? weren't they Seventh Day Adventist?) and tries to make an independent life out there. |
