Is there something you do purposefully to irritate people?

I understand that, what I don't understand is how people (fail to) behave at places like Costco. Are we no longer a civilized society?

Do you by chance frequent the Pentagon City costco? I sometimes wonder if there is a cultural expectation issue there. It seems like some countries don't have a "walk on the left" norm.

Yes, I do this also. I’ll even go a hair slower just to tick them off.

You are the person that causes accidents even though you don’t realise it. Because people are constantly changing lanes because of you.

What if somebody is just going the speed limit?? I think it’s odd to go the speed limit to get back at somebody but it really is okay to go the speed limit in the right lane or when it’s one lane. I always go the speed limit if it’s 25 mph because it’s low for a good reason and it’s irritating when people tailgate me because they are clearly frustrated about it. Going 30 in a residential neighborhood is what is unsafe, not going the speed limit.

+1. I always drive the speed limit. To those who don’t like it, plan your time better.

Generally I agree, but you have to pace yourself with the majority of the traffic. If everyone is going 10 mph over the speed limit except for you, you are the one more likely to cause an accident.

Nope. That’s not what the law says. Again plan your time better.

I'm less concerned about the law than about not causing an accident. And if you think police are going to ticket everyone, when everyone is speeding, you're wrong. It's funny to me that you're saying "plan your time better" because I am actually a cautious and slow driver, but when literally every car on the road is passing me, I realize that I better speed up a bit.

DP. I think the point is that if someone is tailgating you, they slow down to go the speed limit.

I do this all the time. Let’s say I’m going 73 (speed limit is 65) and the tailgater is on me pushing me to go faster, I do the exact opposite and go even slower. I do t his so they go around me, and it works every time.

+1. Especially on the highway if I am not in the passing lane.

And if you miss the turn into Tyson's off of 123 just before International Drive and then try to make the left through lane your own personal turn lane then I will lay on my horn behind you until you move.

You are my hero. People who do dangerous things after missing a turn are the worst. Sorry, but you have to go around the block again, or to the next exit, or up to the next light and turn around. You don't get to be selfish on the roadways.

lol who is being selfish here? You all need to stop trying to control other people and focus on driving your own damn cars. There are plenty of idiots driving two ton killing machines.

They take them down the stairs (no elevator) and into the yard unleashed, and it sucks because the rest of us have to be super vigilant with our own dogs since we never know when we're going to encounter their dogs unleashed. They will grab their collars and restrain them if they start to run or jump, but it would just be so much easier if they put them on leashes like they are supposed to. I honestly have no idea why don't don't.

Anyway, I and several other people in the building have started "forgetting" to latch the gates to the front or back areas of the building when we come and go. We know this annoys them because they've mentioned it at building meetings before and will complain that if the gate is open, their dogs will run out. Of course, if their dogs were leashed, this would not be an issue.

I know it's petty and I genuinely hope they just start leashing their dogs (and that they don't get out of the yard because I do worry they might get hurt). But it's been years of this and no matter how many times they are told to leash their dogs, they won't. We're all just fed up. So this tiny, petty rebellion is all we have.

Just out of curiosity, and as a dog owner yourself, how would you feel if their dogs get out and are hit and killed by a car? Would you think, well, the owner should have done a better job or would you think you had punished the dog (and the poor driver of the car) instead of the people actually at fault?

This, but specifically on regular single lane neighborhood roads, not the highway, I'll go slower than the speed limit. The closer you are, the slower I go.

No, because I'm not psychotic.

There is a dangerous intersection by my house as well as a left turn out of our elementary school across 2 lanes of cars flying down a hill. I probably take my time finding the safe opening, longer than people behind me would prefer, but I am not going to go any faster just because someone honks at me. When someone does honk, it rattles my nerves and makes it take longer.

I have my kids in the car and often other people’s kids too. Both intersections average 1 accident a month due to visibility and people generally being impatient.

I slow down until the person behind me backs off. The actual reason for this is that tailgating is actually extremely dangerous, and if the moron behind me is going to rear-end me the slower we’re both going the less damage there is likely to be (and the better the likelihood I will survive the crash caused by the tailgater).

The fact that it makes them angry is just a bonus.

I would think they should have taken better care of their dog.

FWIW, there is relatively minimal traffic on our street and I think the odds of this happening are actually slim to none. If we were on a busy street with traffic close to our yard, I probably wouldn't do this out of concern for the dog.

What is far more likely is that their dogs will run out onto the sidewalk and they'll have to go retrieve them, and nothing will happen to the dog but it will annoy them.

And the obvious answer to ALL of this is for them to put their dogs on a leash like every other person in the building does.

Underlying all of this is the fact that they have chosen to keep two large, athletic, energetic dogs in their apartment. Most of the other people in the building just have one dog, and the dogs are smaller and/or older, less rowdy, and need less exercise. I do have one neighbor with two dogs but they are little lap dogs. My personal opinion is that they are bad dog owners who continually make selfish choices regarding their dogs and then expect other people to accommodate them. I think they don't leash their dogs because they can't handle their dogs on leashes and they've never properly leash trained them so they don't constantly pull and jump. Often they are taking their dogs down to the yard to pee and run around when what they should be doing is taking their dogs to the dog park or for runs or longer walks to get out their energy.

So I do worry about and feel bad for their dogs, but I think the answer is not to continue to accommodate their bad dog owner behavior, but to make it clear that it is their responsibility to leash and care for their dogs. I would not feel even a little bit culpable if one of their dogs ran in the street and got hit. Preventing that is completely within their control.

Yeah, in zero states is going the speed limit when everyone else is going over considered illegal. That is ridiculous.

I unspool some of the receipt tape in the terminals on restaurant tables, write a few messages about workers' solidarity then spool it back and close the terminal. So the next receipt has a nice little socialist message along with it!
