Emory ED is out!

Anonymous
DD accepted, 4.0 UW, test optional.

No idea what her essay was about b/c she wouldn't let me read it, as her DC charter school advises!

It is odd, because many think Smory is not as selective because of slightly lower stats but then reject 1570 ED applicants. I wo Der what their looking for.

Affirmative action doesn't exist anymore. Nice try, troll.

You seem out of touch - universities still care about diversity and Emory certainly does. Last year all the ED admits from our highly regarded DMV private were URM. Students can find ways in their essays to communicate how they can contribute to the community via diversity. University of California dropped race/ethnicity from applications many cycles ago - yet these schools explicitly state that they value diversity and are looking to craft a diverse student body. It's all in the essays.

I imagine essays from Thomas Sowell, Condoleezza Rice, Winsome Sears, or Alan Keys would stand out as compelling?

Absolutely. Theyre all stand outs. The essays and commentaries they make now are compelling. Hence their popularity and followings

So an essay about being a black conservative is the way in? I bet SFFA didn't anticipate that! Or maybe they did? Is that why the Supreme Court allows the essays?

It's all so confusing!

These people who are getting rejected have GPs that are just too low.

The schools were beyond reaches - if no hook…

You might want to talk to your school CCO? And look at your schools’ data to see if there’s a better bet for ES2??

For Emory? I think so…need at least 3.75 or 3.8…..

But it truthfully depends on the school.
Have they ever accepted someone with that GPA in the last few years from your kids school?

Key.
People who were admitted in 2020 or 2021 may have had notably lower GPAs.

Emory on a big upswing last 2 cycles…

Assuming that this is true, why was Emory University your first choice school ?

Were you chasing a scholarship ? (If so, I think that the major scholarships at Emory typically are awarded to those with higher GPAs).

Was Emory a true first choice school or was it a strategic play that you thought would be a sure ED admit ?

I wrote the above post. For some reason, it stirred up several unhelpful, incorrect responses from other posters. I have no clue why those who responded want to spread disinformation about Emory University and its scholarship requirements/process.

I am very familiar with Emory University and know/knew (some are deceased & some have moved on) many key players & donors over the past 40 years. I simply wanted to know why the student preferred Emory.

To correct the misinformation: In order to be considered for a merit scholarship award at Emory University, one must apply by November 1st if an ED applicant and by November 15th for all other applicants including RD.

This. A high test score won’t make up for low GPA

Depends on what school coming from and if weighted or not. A 3.7 from MCPS is definitely too low

The discussion regarding a GPA of 3.70 and GPA cut-offs is more relevant regarding scholarship consideration than being a determining factor regarding admissions. But, yes, for the most part an applicant's GPA is reviewed in the context of the applicant's high school and with regard to the rigor of the applicant's courses taken throughout high school.

What most posters to elite colleges and universities may not appreciate is the reason or reasons that applicant selected a particular school for ED. Very important.

While at many schools, applying ED is enough to assure admissions committee members that the applicant has good and sufficient reason for applying ED to that particular school, but that is no longer the case with respect to highly ranked, highly competitive private National Universities. And this is a significant reason that so many are befuddled by outright rejections of otherwise seemingly highly qualified applicants.

And so are the new laws for your daughters in GA by GA Republicans.

Any parent sending a child to a red state is well fed good luck with those no travel out of state laws.

Yeah that affects your daughters.

Texas only idiots send kids there after the election. Even now it’s horrific.
