Wow. Low gpa…

A 3.7 and a 1570 isn't good enough for a scholarship at Emory anyway.

Low gpa for our private.
Cutoff appears 3.75 UW

DS was Accepted 3.9 1340- test optional. 2 internships with state House of representatives.

Assuming that this is true, why was Emory University your first choice school ?

Were you chasing a scholarship ? (If so, I think that the major scholarships at Emory typically are awarded to those with higher GPAs).

Was Emory a true first choice school or was it a strategic play that you thought would be a sure ED admit ?

Emory doesn't even give scholarships for ED. DC is the only site where some dont think Emory is a top school, just to be "surprised" at how selective it is EVERY year.

+1! It gets old.

This was for Oxford btw, rejected from Emory.

If possible people should enter their students GPA and test scores AND the average GPA and test scores from their high school. A 1480 does not stand out when the high school average is 1480. But a 1480 where the high school average is 900 does stand out.

Question: Are Oxford and Emory separate ED options (or can you apply to both)?

I believe you could apply to either ED separately - but if you apply both and get rejected from Emory and accepted at Oxford - you are bound to Oxford.

My very high stats DC had this outcome for RD last year - Emory reject, Oxford accept - no scholarships.

Affirmative action doesn't exist anymore. Nice try, troll.

You seem out of touch - universities still care about diversity and Emory certainly does. Last year all the ED admits from our highly regarded DMV private were URM. Students can find ways in their essays to communicate how they can contribute to the community via diversity. University of California dropped race/ethnicity from applications many cycles ago - yet these schools explicitly state that they value diversity and are looking to craft a diverse student body. It's all in the essays.

I imagine essays from Thomas Sowell, Condoleezza Rice, Winsome Sears, or Alan Keys would stand out as compelling?

Absolutely. Theyre all stand outs. The essays and commentaries they make now are compelling. Hence their popularity and followings

Seems like Emory doesn't want the highest stat students possible, even when they apply ED. It's strange but that how they do things.
