Yes, but you’re allowed to enter legally binding contracts, join the military, and get credit. Oh how I wish I could have ended my marriage without penalty and not suffered with years of bad credit over those credit cards I got at 18. Oh, but somehow committing crimes deserves more compassion? |
| You won’t stop this until there are serious consequences. Kids see friends going away and it will change behavior. At the same time you can work to address larger systemic issues. But if people don’t feel safe, they will move/not spend money in the city. Which will affect DC revenue and make it impossible to address larger issues. |
Are you for real? Wait until you're a victim of one of these junior thugs, and then we'll see what you have to say.

Any swath anywhere raising criminals. |
Imagine if the races were reversed, would be on the front page of CNN, WaPo, NYT crying hate crime. |

| All this arguing over adults vs. kids doesn’t matter. They don’t need to be sentenced as adults and given incredibly lengthy prison sentences in order for punishment to have a deterrent effect. We need swift and certain punishment. There is a ton of research on this. |
Well, right now their identity is protected, they are given light sentences (if any) and released to reoffend |
Many years ago, I was attacked in DC by a someone in the middle of a mental health crisis. The person ended up cutting and me herself before running off. I was scared that I might have contracted HIV, hepatitis C, or a similar disease due to the possible exchange of bodily fluids. I chased my attacker not because I wanted her punished with imprisonment (although she did need to be removed from the community until she could be stabilized). But I wanted her to be tested for various diseases to find out if I was at risk for anything. The police officer who responded to my call told me I was lucky I was not able to catch her because I otherwise I--not her--would have likely ended up with charges. I should have moved away from the city then. |
Perfect example. |
Most of the 900 violent carjackings in DC did not result in a death. And I am sure things were worse iN the 90s. |
I was here. For non-criminals, things are much worse now. |
Uh, they are not carjacking because they need cars. |
What things? Statistically, things are worse now, we are worse than the 90s. |
| Cane them Singapore style. |
