Many years ago, I was attacked in DC by a someone in the middle of a mental health crisis. The person ended up cutting and me herself before running off. I was scared that I might have contracted HIV, hepatitis C, or a similar disease due to the possible exchange of bodily fluids. I chased my attacker not because I wanted her punished with imprisonment (although she did need to be removed from the community until she could be stabilized). But I wanted her to be tested for various diseases to find out if I was at risk for anything. The police officer who responded to my call told me I was lucky I was not able to catch her because I otherwise [i]I--not her[/i]--would have likely ended up with charges.
