I've seen Stanford and MIT pretty much get treated the same way, just better than a lot of ivies. |
Given that both these numbers are completely unsubstantiated, I’d wait until the schools,do press releases on ED admissions before drawing conclusions. |
Duke athletes re admitted outside of ED admissions. |
That's true, OP's guidance counselor could have been joking or misread, better to wait for the real numbers. |
Test Blind / Optional AND application fee waivers: A recipe for systemic academic decline. |
I'm pretty sure their admissions office knows what they're doing, and will admit kids who can thrive. |
I think the question at hand is why did Duke specifically receive such a massive spike in applicants, it doesn't look like other ED schools are experiencing the same. |
No one actually knows yet, give it a month. |
This entire thread is based on fake statistics. |
Among "top 20" schools, there are a few where applying early makes a difference. But it's like 17 percent chance versus 5 percent chance in regular decision. Significant enough for people to shoot their shot. I'm sure the numbers are the same at similar schools.
It's competitive out there. |
Duke has an ugly campus. UNC-CH is nicer, and a better school, too. |
Hope you enjoyed your time in Chapel Hill! |
Interesting! In my circle, it’s almost universally Asians and others of color who attend Ivies. The white kids go to Duke. |
They are probably marketing themselves a lot more as an achievable elite school. Ironically, it will drastically lower their acceptance rate |
Doubt it, anyone can see the numbers. Being ranked #7 on US News doesn't leave a lot of daylight. |
