Well, yes, but they also talk about the number of applicants seeking financial aid overall and say admissions increased among this group. |
Duke is actually being generous with their acceptance rate. They say they accepted 806/6240 for a 12.9% ED acceptance rate, but that includes the 97 Questbridge kids they accepted. So really they accepted 709/6240 for a 11.3% ED acceptance rate since Questbridge has a separate process. When Yale reported their EA acceptance rate they admitted the same number as Duke (709) and didn’t include the 72 Questbridge admits in the number. |
Questbridge should be counted as they compete for the same seats as everyone else. |
Agreed but they don’t count as applicants either, so it’s somewhat fair |
I think if you add the questbridge number to the numerator/acceptances, you need to add it to the denominator/applicants. Duke Doesn’t count them as applicants which is why they’re not in the acceptances in this ratio (I.e., Students accepted divided by students that applied) |
I think Duke sees this as good, because normally the only kids that are pushed to ED are kids that are full pay. Some schools are accepting fewer ED, because they are holding out for more need-based applicants. Now Duke knows that they can find these types of students (donut families, included) in the ED pool as well. |
Duke shines only because it is in a bad locale. The American south is known more for tobacco than intellectual vigor! If it were in New England, Duke will mostly just be an also-ran. Sorry! |
Sorry that your kid rejected |
Too bad those Southern dullards keep creating new jobs for college graduates—something New England struggles to do.
South has led the nation in new jobs creation. |
Wow. I don't even have a dog in this fight but if your knowledge of southern economy begins and ends at tobacco then you are in the room. |
Duke came out against antisemitism right away and the Seinfeld children are there. It’s going to be harder to get into than any ivy because there will be no need to investigate the school and employers and grad school won’t side-eye applicants from there. It’s a much safer investment these days. |
But you would also need to count the amount of QB kids that applied. Which is likely over 2000. |
because that's what most kids who apply to duke are looking for.... |
Not to mention the south's progressive stand on women's health! |
The main reason Duke saw a huge bump in applications this past year is because they instated a new policy that provides full tuition grants for admitted undergraduate student residents of North Carolina and South Carolina whose families have a total income of $150,000 or less. You can read more about it here: https://financialaid.duke.edu/initiative-students-carolinas/
We attended an admissions tour in April 2024 and the speaker shared this information, along with the fact that they had seen a big increase in applicants, likely attributing it to this new policy. |
