According to Duke for class of 2027 they were 53% white, 35% Asian, 13% black, 13% hispanic, with 7% multiracial (which is why it adds up to over 100%). |
35% Asian? Wow. Makes sense, in our Indian circles Duke is very popular. |
Same with our Chinese friends. More desirable than many ivies |
Other T10s are not seeing similar jumps, so perhaps it is complicated |
I'm amazed that many families can afford $93K a year. |
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?198419-Duke-University It says average annual cost = $31,416 |
Duke is very generous with financial aid |
+1. ED and EA are up for all the schools I've been looking at. |
Yale is known to not refuse a giant donation. HTH. |
Would rather buy a spot at Penn than Yale tbh |
Why is that? |
I think some of is is coming from people being a bit more realistic, but in my circle the fact that you cannot ED to Harvard and EA to any other private schools was a big factor in kids decisions when they know the odds of getting into Harvard are a crap shoot. They figured they had a better shot at Duke and could still apply early to other privates- so increased their chances. |
It's regarded a better schools than lower ivies like Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth in general not just by Asians. |
+1 have seen the same among my circles (white). |
