Maybe YOUR kid is fine north arlington, wealthy white parent who can pay for tutoring but a lot of kids are NOT OKAY and I’d like my district to care.

Talking about learning loss and context because our school board just tries to paint a rosy picture constantly is not bad. Take your privilege and shove it back to somewhere where those of us trying to help our kid read at grade level don’t have to see it.

Except it's the wealthy white privileged Miranda supporters who are the ones crowing about learning loss, upset that they had to shell out a few of their own bucks for a tutor that they can totally afford. Watch them grab all the resources for their own kids when APS offers tutors. Just watch. This group just likes to use the brown poor kids as talking points to get what they want for their own privileged kids.

Think i'm wrong? Then try suggesting that only kids of a certain income level or in certain demographic groups (sped, minority, T1 etc) get the tutors, and watch the APE Miranda supporters go berserk! It's the same thing that happened during Covid. They resisted efforts to open up schools first to the most needy because that upset their narrative of using the most needy kids as a reason to get what they wanted for THEIR kids.

They showed us who they are. They are all about their OWN kids. I won't forget.

Some (affluent) have mentioned grabbing the VA grant money on parent email groups.

The same people who were "speaking for" the lower-income families during the pandemic even when those families were saying the opposite.

Absolutely disgusting people.

I’m not gonna vote for someone who acts like she deserves credit for living in the Valley when, as some of her supporters claimed during her first run, she and her husband could afford to live anywhere in Arlington. White savior much?

Yeah she lived in the Valley but sent one kid to private school, and didn't send the others to the neighborhood school. Not good enough for her and Mr. Miranda MAGA apparently.

TEMPORARILY sent one to private. They went Arlington Montessori for public.

If you’re on here still complaining about Turner, I have one bit of advice for you: cope. Because that’s what the rest of us have been doing for years now.

Turner would never have had a chance in a sane system. ACDC thought they could treat the SB like a ridiculous pet project/JV team. They used low-turnout fake primaries to shut people out of the process. They put people with minimal experience with APS on the board like CDT along with empty suits like Priddy. Anyone who wasn’t 100% on board with the program was dismissed as a crank, a MAGA, a teacher-hater, etc. Blind partisanship convinced our supposed betters to endorse a serial-exaggerating 22-year old who could barely make it to meetings.

It turns out that the whole caucus system has real downsides, doesn’t it? And now you’re just going to have to live with the results for the next four years. Welcome to the club.

Lort. APE and their co-opting and misappropriation of words like privilege and equity, not really understanding what either means but feeling free and mighty to throw them around like they care about minorities and real learning loss. It existed before the pandemic. Where was APE when Murphy wasn’t giving two ***** about Black, Brown or Sped kids. Anyone?

I see right through you.

And I am not white, rich, or live in N Arlington.

You sir, need to get a grip.

So, I wasn’t around three years ago, but at the last school board meeting APE was lobbying for Arlington spending more money on intensive tutoring, particularly for kids who need to catch up. Arlington apparently wants to dump a significant chunk of the state money in reserves, exclude kids who actually need help because they already have some help (??!), and “tutor” at a 10 to 1 ratio. Please tell me how this is a MaGA cause? Would you prefer APS dump it into more D&E coordinators who do nothing?

The most telling part of this rant is the complaint about "excluding kids who already have some help (??!)"

There it is right there folks. The kids who already have some help = children of rich privileged APEs. The APEs want the tutoring $$$ for their own kids.

Exactly, they avoided going to Drew. With the black and brown kids.

The pandemic was over long before 2023. She was in private earlier this year.

Remember folks: if you have no kids in APS because you have no kids period, you’re A-OK to be on the SB, even if you’ve got no significant experience with APS otherwise (so long as you vote the party line). But if you’ve only got two out of three kids in APS, you’re a MAGAt racist who wants to destroy all public education and bring back Jim Crow.

You mean her kid was in private last school year, after leaving due to the pandemic? And her kid is back at APS? Who cares if she moved her kid during the pandemic? Sorry if the kid didn’t come back on YOUR approved timeline. You people are nuts.

I DGAF where she sends her kids. The PP asked about timing ("during the pandemic?") and I responded. Her kid was in private earlier this year so during and after the pandemic.

I wouldn't call her a MAGA, but she does surround herself with MAGAs. Weird.

Is your point that option schools should be dismantled?

Over according to who? The federal government declared the pandemic over May 2023. Do you have a different suggested date? This is the dumbest comment on this thread. And that’s saying a lot.

Just like the majority of others who wouldn't even consider living in south Arlington and specifically bought homes in north Arlington precisely to avoid the schools in the south with the black and brown kids. So, just as APE and MAGA as everyone else who avoided these schools, only avoided them in a different way.
