Exactly! Same with ACK. What is up with this? I buy the community thing for schools, but there's no reason to announce to strangers where you vacation.

Does ACK = Acokeek?

ACK is the airport code for Nantucket.

You put those bumber stickers on as a badge of honor and pride. And guess what? There is nothing wrong with that. I am very proud of the fact that my child attends a wonderful school, and I do have the sticker on my car. When my child goes to college...I will have that bumper sticker on my car too.

Actually, no you are incorrect. I was being honest in my post--completely. Just because you love putting bumper stickers on your car identifying DC's school, doesn't mean everyone does.

The stickers I absolutely DETEST are the "My child is an honor student at ..." as in "My child is really smart and yours isn't!"

I once saw one that said "My child beats up your honor roll student" which was a bit red neck, but I understand the sentiment!

I hate those, too. But my son who got one stuck it on my car before I noticed. Then it seemed like I wouldn't be appreciating him if I took it off.

That said, it seems worse to me to have a bumper sticker proclaiming, "we are paying big $ to send our kid to school X, because we can afford it and because DC is so brilliant he got in."

(Full disclosure: when we did private, we had that bumper sticker too. Not my idea, but you can flame me now....)

we put one of those honor roll sticker on when DD made honor roll at her school (low brow public in a neighborhood where most of you would never think about living). She was so proud and had worked so hard to bring her grades up, I didn't know how we could say no. we did put it on the "second" car, though, and she was fine with that because it's the car she rides in a lot.

My favorite spoof on a school window sticker is one -- written in calligraphy -- that reads very elegantly "Your College Sucks" It's a riot. I saw it on the back of an old DC station wagon taxi.

Ha, that is funny. I really have no opinion one way or another on if folks use bumper stickers, but would love to see that one around town.

Here is a link to it -- I think I'll get one for my car: http://www.prankplace.com/product.aspx?d=Party-Bumper-Stickers.Your-College-Sucks%E2%80%A6-Bumper-Sticker&p=775&c=157

Sounds like someone is very childish and needs a confidence boost. Not everyone can/should go to an elite school. I didn't and I still don't mind people showing off their Harvards, Yales, Princetons, etc.

I went to top ivy. No sticker btw. But I think the Your College Sucks sticker is fantastic. You know, top ivies cover the power of irony in most classes. I guess PP didn't seem to get that lesson at her non elite school.

You don't know the meaning of irony. Missed class that day?

I posted previously that I live in NW DC (Foxhall area) and never see Sidwell stickers. Well, this morning I pulled out of my neighborhood and was soon behind a car with a very large SIDWELL FRIENDS SCHOOL sticker that took up the car's entire lower back window. I thought of this thread and laughed to myself and then laughed even harder when I looked down and saw the car's license plate... it was from Virginia.

I actually find the "my child is an honor role student at . . ." more tolerable than stickers for fancy private schools because they tend to be from public schools, and from what i can see, more remote, public school districts at that. These parents more often than not come from more modest backgrounds than most of us here and are genuinely proud of their kids, not the school. I wouldn't put such a sticker on my car, but I don't begrudge them. Now my children attend what I just referred to as fancy private schools and I would never even consider a sticker on my car. Its just bragging and to me very different.
