Pricing out the poor, low income buyers.

That's why moco has 15% mpdu requirements. It helps.

Have you looked at the MPDU prices, they still are not affordable to many. I looked as a county employee making $60 and no way I could afford the payments.

It will be a W school as it will be a more wealthy school and most families who are the ones you all don't want at those schools (meaning us) aren't going to want our kids bussed there either.

New growth in Rockville and north Bethesda will not be low income housing. It will be close to million dollar townhomes and brownstones. Printing out the poor. Woodward will be without a doubt, a W school. Plan on it.

Those areas already priced out the poor and real middle class. That's why many of us don't live there. However, with the new growth, Woodward will be full quickly so its a non-issues for others.

Is this a requirement to be a W?

It's necessary but not sufficient. Excluding the poor, low income renters is also required.

Not really. It is primarily being opened to alleviate crowding in the DCC. So it will effectively be a DCC school and could even be included in the DCC.

When did Walter Johnson HS join the DCC?

No, it's not.
The W has been a thing way before DCUM even existed, even before civilian use of the internet.

Perhaps. But I have never once heard it mentioned or discussed outside of this website. And I’ve lived in the DMV for over 20 years and MoCo for over 12.

I grew up here and attended MCPS. The term was used in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. The old Woodward with neighborhoods such as Luxmanor and Farmland was considered a W school. The boundary selection will determine if Woodward will be considered a W again. If diversity is the objective, then no, it will not be a W school.

As a pp correctly pointed out, the land was donated for educational purposes by the Woodward family. The name will remain with the school.

My understanding is they are using Woodward as an opportunity to adjust all boundaries of nearby schools to help diversify many of the less diverse ones.

They’re not messing with Whitman or Churchill, are they?

The #1 priority of the boundary study was to improve diversity and those are the least diverse schools...

The #1 priority of the boundary study was to relieve overcrowding.

Diversity was one of the factors considered, but this repeat poster has their own agenda and their own little fantasy world.

This is inaccurate. No one factor was prioritized over the others.

“The Districtwide Boundary Analysis is an initiative designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of Montgomery County Public School boundaries by analyzing various data points such as school facility utilization and capacity, student demographics, and school assignment and travel patterns.”

What are you referring to? This thread is about Woodard, which is primarily being opened to alleviate overcrowding in the DCC. MCPS has not conducted the boundary study for Woodward yet and while they have hinted that it will be it’s own cluster, nothing is final until they do the study and it’s still possible that they include it in the DCC.
