Will Woodward be an automatic "W School" when it opens??

No, it's not.
The W has been a thing way before DCUM even existed, even before civilian use of the internet.

Perhaps. But I have never once heard it mentioned or discussed outside of this website. And I’ve lived in the DMV for over 20 years and MoCo for over 12.

Yes, unless they give it a different name that doesn't start with W.

Also, there is no such thing as "South Rockville," either you are within the boundaries of Rockville or you aren't.

It might not be technically a city, but it’s becoming a thing.

Exactly. Plus everything is going to be brand new and state of the art.

They’re objectively better schools with better staffs but if I had it to do over again I would have bought in a cheaper neighborhood and done private.

They do not have better staff. They do have richer students.

They have the best teachers, because the best teachers want to be around the motivated students who are thriving.

I'm sure it comforts you to believe that.

I gather you've conducted an exhaustive study, comparing the staffs at all MCPS schools?

They get paid more because they have been around longer. The principals basically hand pick those staffs and have a lot of choices.

Older teachers are not necessarily better teachers. And besides, every school has a mix of younger and older teachers. It's pointless to make generalizations like this.

Again, the principals basically get to hand pick their staffs from people with long track records in the system.

Yes but it will not be the Cornell of W schools because that role is already taken.

It will be the Dartmouth of the Ws.

I grew up here and attended MCPS. The term was used in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. The old Woodward with neighborhoods such as Luxmanor and Farmland was considered a W school. The boundary selection will determine if Woodward will be considered a W again. If diversity is the objective, then no, it will not be a W school.

As a pp correctly pointed out, the land was donated for educational purposes by the Woodward family. The name will remain with the school.

Woodward will certainly be a more diverse school than any of the "W" schools currently are. The question is will WJ become less diverse.

No such thing as an automatic W school. That title has to be earned. Just ask Wheaton and Wootton.

Do you mean because Woodward will pull from the poorer/less desirable areas WJ had to absorb when Woodward closed historically?

My understanding is they are using Woodward as an opportunity to adjust all boundaries of nearby schools to help diversify many of the less diverse ones.

I guess you don't know what the W stands for.
It stands for White and Wealth, not the name of the school.
