It is you who has been living under the rock. The schools will continue to look at race - the identifying box is gone but it can now be raised in the essays which was in Roberta’s dicta. That’s what all the schools have done. Go look at some sample essays |
+1. The correct terms are Korean American, Japanese American, Chinese American, not East Asian |
The proper term is "Jungle Asians" See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCmINg7t4B8 Signed, A fellow half Jungle, half Fancy Asian |
East Asian American would also be a correct term. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Asia |
As the wiki instructs, it is a geological term. In college admissions, you say Korean American. |
| There is no “East Asian”box on the college application |
There's no Korean American checkbox in college admissions. |
This thread is not about college application checkbox. Question is "Where do underachieving East Asian kids go to college?" |
The acceptance rate for GMU is 90%. The acceptance rate for JMU is 77%. The acceptance rate for VCU is 91%. JMU rejects more applicants and is a little harder to get into than GMU and VCU. |

Where do underachieving East Asian kids go to college?
In VA, mostly JMU, GMU, VCU |
+1 Race is an intractable part of American society. Colleges too. |
Not an Asian but know that neither of the three likes to be identified in the same group as the others and generally look down upon the other Asians. |
Here's a term I learned on this forum - Jungle Asian. That would be Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam. I guess the difference is cultural expectations, aspirations and education levels. |
kind of like German, French, British, but they are Europeans. |
Also three of the CUNY colleges: Baruch, Hunter and Queens, all over 30% Asian. Several of the other CUNYs are in the 20s. Rutgers and UMBC are over 20% too. |
