In VA, mostly JMU, GMU, VCU

What do you mean by this? Someone who once got a B?

You can still go to UVA, VT, W&M with once got a B

The 75th percentile of students at UVA last year had almost a 4.6

I’m unaware of that source, but regardless - that’s a weighted GPA reference point. What was the 25th %ile? Given the various weighting “techniques”, multiple B grades are not disqualifying unless the rest of the application isn’t strong.

Here’s a very feasible example …

Through the end of the summer following the applicant’s 11th grade, 22 classes for 42 semester grades.

10 AP classes (+ 1.00 GPA weight)
6 honors classes (+ 0.50 GPA weight)
6 college prep. classes

Eight (8) B grades yields a 4.41 weighted GPA. Odds are you’re easily waltzing into UVA with a 1600 / 36 and an otherwise strong application from a top HS.

This is not very feasible because:

1. This assumes 10 AP classes completed by the end of Junior year. Not likely, and I think not allowed in FCPS.

2. FCPS gives grades for the year, not the semester. The denominator is 21-23 by end of junior year, and every B has a real impact.
