Have you ever had HPV that you know of?

But men can indeed be swabbed to test for HPV and there is also a way to test for HPV via a urine sample. I remember reading about a clinic in California that did offer swab tests for men and I once found a mail order urine HPV test for men. It may be that they are not as accurate, but it would be better than nothing. I absolutely hate that men are the main vectors for HPV and the medical establishment lets the weight of disease and testing fall on women. Maybe if the rates of oral/throat cancer keep increasing in men medicine will eventually stop seeing HPV as a "women's problem."

I know for a fact it exists. In dmv area. My ex boyfriend’s sister got him tested somehow she was a doctor. I recall it was urine culture . It can be PCR from swan or urine

Oh, this sounds super legit.

Yes, of course. Very rare to be sexually active and never get it. I was vaccinated but that only protects you from the limited number of strains that cause cancer.

Yes, I had warts and then I had an irregular PAP in my 20s. Had a colposcopy and a LEEP and have had normal paps since. 46 now and dating, doctor has never mentioned the vaccine to me but maybe I’ll bring it up at my annual.

I’ve been negative for HPV at all my gyn visits, so I don’t think so.

HPV is no joke. Two close friends have died from throat cancer tied to HPV in the past 5 years. One friend was was 44, the other 53, both male.

HPV testing isn't standard for well woman visits. Pap smears only detect cervical changes, which are often due to HPV. But you could have very, very new case of HPV that hasn't led to cervical changes yet so it wouldn't register on the pap.

Gay or straight? Immune suppressed or not? Smokers/drinkers? These things matter.

I think Pap smears now do reflexive HPV testing

Same question here . Oral sex is pretty much a normality in early dating stages but I’m very concerned about STIs

I am not risking getting throat cancer to give a guy oral sex. I use condoms when performing oral sex and I am very choosy about who I have oral sex with - only if we are exclusive and if we have been tested for STDs.

I am fine with not receiving oral sex. Not sure how women handle protection when receiving oral sex.

Jury is out on how much condoms protect from HPV but there are some studies showing they protect quite a bit.

If I get married, I might be willing to take on the risk of condom free oral sex. But not before then. And I wouldn't do it unvaccinated (I am vaxxed).

Data shows that men are getting HPV oral cancer at vastly higher rates than women, which suggests that the virus doesn’t hang around in/on the dry environment of a man’s member.

No it’s bc a lot of them are gay men sucking other gay men

I’ve known three men with HPV-caused throat cancer, and all were straight men who presumably caught HPV from female partners. All were in longtime marriages by the time the cancer appeared.

Both straight, married men with kids. Not immune suppressed. One smoked/chewed tobacco in his youth. The other did not but was a big red meat eater which is surprisingly linked to throat cancer.

I’ve known three (see one post above) though two survived. All straight, all previously healthy, all nonsmokers.

Yes, when I was in my mid twenties. It cleared on its own, and I did get vaccinated as soon as the shot was available as I was about to age out of qualifying for it.

The vast majority of us have had it and will never know until/unless we develop an associated cancer.
Anonymous
Yes, and I was vaccinated beforehand
