Have you ever had HPV that you know of?

Yes.

Yes, eventually needed surgery and had a cone biopsy done and then was fine after that. Dated a man who lied to me about their history and had a lot of partners. The experience was stressful but glad it is behind me.

I didn't because I was too old for the shot and married by the time shot came out. I'm now 41 and still married and apparently they've now increased the age for the shot in the past few years. I am unsure if I should get it. I feel like I've talked to doctors about it and they don't know either.

I would get it.

First of all, your husband could cheat on you. Sorry but he could.

Second of all, it's possible you gave it to him, cleared it, he's cleared it, but his could reactivate and give it to you again.

I just got the vaccine as a forty five year old and it barely hurt. It was weird. Maybe because the dosing is for teens whose systems react more?

Yes, abnormal pap in college that I was told was HPV. Religious about paps and I’ve been good ever since.

I had to have expensive and painful laser surgery yo finally get rid of them (as did my partner at the time - hard to tell if he for them from me or already had them).

I did finally get rid of them, and have had clean paps for years, but if has made me unwilling to have non-monogamous sex, plus I insist on condom use for STI safety. Some partners have been respectful of my conditions for consensual sex, some have not.

One of my close male friends had a bout with throat cancer caused by HPV.

I know many people treat HPV very casually, but that has not been my experience.

Did you have warts? And did you have abnormal pap smears as a result? Or did you have no warts?

I know there are high risk strains that cause cancer and give abnormal paps. And there are non high risk strains that cause warts. What I am confused about is, are there low risk strains that cause warts AND give you abnormal pap smears? Or is it only the high risk strains that cause abnormal paps?

FYI the strain that causes warts is different from the strains that cause cancer. Then there are other strands that don't cause anything.

Do they specifically tell you hpv or is it just assumed from an abnormal pap? I had a pap that was abnormal, but they retested me 3 months later and it was clear. Never had an issue since, tested negative on the DNA testing as well. I did have 2 HPV vaccines as a teenager before becoming active. So would the one time abnormal test be assumed hpv or just a bad sample? I've always disclosed it afterwards but nobody's ever batted an eye.

Yes. I had it after meeting my ex-husband but it could’ve been from anyone.
I had an abnormal pap and leave to remove abnormal cells and a recurred, and then I had to redo it again and I haven’t had it since. I got the HPV vaccine after a divorce. There are hundreds of strains, so yes, you should get vaccinated for it if you were worried about catching it even if you’ve had it before.

Would love to know this. I’m 50 so not vaccinated and had an abnormal pap and a coloposcopy in my 20s but no treatment or anything necessary afterwards. I’m actually not sure what my answer to OP’s question is.

I know that. I say that in my post. What I am asking is if this poster had warts or if she is just referring to cervical changes. I’ve never understood whether warts, the non cancer strains, can cause abnormal Pap smear. Or if it’s just the high risk kind that can cause an abnormal Pap smear.

Do you remember getting a separate hpv test? Given your timing, this may have happened to you when we only had paps and no hpv test. I think the hpv test came on the scene in the early 2000s.

I had an abnormal pap from HPV (not type specific at that time) and colposcopy in 1991. Since then I haven't had any abnormal paps. Not a single one. I never had warts. Just that one pap with follow up.

Any form of HPV could result in an abnormal Pap smear, including the kind they are precancerous, and the kind that includes warts, and any other kind.

Had and abnormal pap and had the laser biopsy removal because I was very scared, 21 and both my parents had died within the last 4 years so had no one to really advise me. I got the HPV vaccine at 40 which is now covered by insurance if you had HPV as they run knit reduces risk of future cancer I think.

Had a LEEP in my 20s and later normal pap.
