The guidance is very clear. What on earth are you confused about? |
I am not risking getting throat cancer to give a guy oral sex. I use condoms when performing oral sex and I am very choosy about who I have oral sex with - only if we are exclusive and if we have been tested for STDs. I am fine with not receiving oral sex. Not sure how women handle protection when receiving oral sex. Jury is out on how much condoms protect from HPV but there are some studies showing they protect quite a bit. If I get married, I might be willing to take on the risk of condom free oral sex. But not before then. And I wouldn't do it unvaccinated (I am vaxxed). |
Stop being mean. I got vaxxed at age 45 a year ago, but doctors are often not that clear about it. When I asked five years ago, my gyn didn't recommend it. Now she does, probably because it is officially approved for older women now. I think one issue is that some doctors assume women over forty are not getting exposed to as much std wise. I feel this is SO not true for women who are dating. Online dating makes it very easy for men to sleep around a lot. Even if you are not sleeping around, even if you are not doing online dating, the guy you are may be. I would go ahead and get vaxxed. I think men in our age group should be getting vaxxed too. It annoys me they are not. I think it's sexist - like oh it's not a big deal to treat so who cares. To me it DOES sound like a big deal to treat so why aren't we vaccinating everyone? Because HPV doesn't have many repercussions for most men. Though I would still get vaccinated if I was a guy because of throat cancer, penile cancer, and not wanting to be the jerk who gives someone else cancer or warts. |
Data shows that men are getting HPV oral cancer at vastly higher rates than women, which suggests that the virus doesn’t hang around in/on the dry environment of a man’s member. |
I was 54, started experiencing pain, a swollen tongue, and then a telltale unilateral neck lymph node swelling (unilateral node swelling is never good). My oral surgeon thought it was related to a tooth implant process I was in the middle of and prescribed a mouthwash. |
No it’s bc a lot of them are gay men sucking other gay men |
Yea, as a woman I was always perplexed how easily men offer “go down” on me after a few dates and not asking for STI testing or vaccinated. Just plain stupid |
Thank you, PP. I agree about the men. It’s crazy. |
| How can we get a test for men regularly as part of an sti check? Apparently there are urine cultures that check for it. Why isn’t this standard? |
Same question here: anyone know which lab in dmv area offers this testing for men ? |
Well, one, we would have to develop a test for HPV for men. It doesn't currently exist. |
More women in leadership. We need them so desperately at every level. And we all need to step up to get them there. It obviously isn’t going to happen “organically.” We need cross-generational activism in every thread of society. |
There is no test for men. |
| There are "no tests for men" in that the medical establishment doesn't bother to offer any testing for men as part of routine health care. But men can indeed be swabbed to test for HPV and there is also a way to test for HPV via a urine sample. I remember reading about a clinic in California that did offer swab tests for men and I once found a mail order urine HPV test for men. It may be that they are not as accurate, but it would be better than nothing. I absolutely hate that men are the main vectors for HPV and the medical establishment lets the weight of disease and testing fall on women. Maybe if the rates of oral/throat cancer keep increasing in men medicine will eventually stop seeing HPV as a "women's problem." |
I know for a fact it exists. In dmv area. My ex boyfriend’s sister got him tested somehow she was a doctor. I recall it was urine culture . It can be PCR from swan or urine |
