Appeals process- DCC

^^^plus there's no guarantee your child would get her previously-requested classes at the previously-assigned DCC school that is not Blair, if that's where MCPS assigned her once you re-enrolled her.

To answer one of OP’s collateral questions, your kid can keep her ID number of you re enroll her relatively quickly. We unenrolled in March 2021 to escape DL and re-enrolled in August 2021 and kids kept ID numbers.

This is so bizarre. You move into a residence zoned for a "home" school, yet since it's part of the DCCC and you are already a DCCC student, one cannot attend the home school?

If so, this would be reason #1 why I would never want B-CC or Woodward or any other school to be absorbed into a consortium.

Your "home school" is the DCC.

No, the home school is Blair which is part of the DCC.

No, it's not. Blair is the "base school."

https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/school-info/downcounty/choice/detail

If you put an address in the DCC into the MCPS school assignment tool, what you get for the high school assignment is: "DCC ([base school])" - where [base school] is the name of whichever of the 5 DCC high schools the address is in the base area of.

Base school and home school mean the same thing.

Not to MCPS. You can be mad, but dont be dense.

Anonymous wrote:Hi, OP here, I just wanted to get back on topic and ask if anyone has successfully unenrolled then reenrolled their child in an mcps/dcc school. If so, I’d really appreciate if you could help me through the process. When I unenroll my child, do I say she’s going to private school? Do I have to provide the school name? I’m just feeling really confused here. Thanks

OP, if you were talking to me about this at a party, I would ask: what do you plan to do if this doesn't work?

How would it not work? What could happen?

You unenroll your child.
MCPS says ok.
You try to reenroll your child at Blair.
MCPS says no, that's not how it works, your child will be enrolled at the previously-assigned DCC school (not Blair).

Then what would you do?

Also, how long would your child be unenrolled, and what will your child do for school during that time?

I thought that if you are enrolling into the dcc, you automatically go to your home school? So in this case it would be blair. Also, I’ll do this during the summer, so what she does for school isn’t an issue.

Yes, if you're a new student. But your child would not be a new student.

What is DL? Also, were you transferring within the DCC?

Mcps wouldn’t see her as a new student? How do you know?

Because they have records for your child. Why don’t you stop by Blair and speak with the registrar there? Explain to them that your child wants to return to their base school. They should be able to help you figure it out

I don't know. But I don't think they're that stupid.

Reading this thread, I am so glad that my home school (BCC) is not in the DCC. This is crazy.

I honestly don't understand why some people on this thread are so baffled. The DCC has an enrollment process. MCPS thoroughly explains the enrollment process. And MCPS has an interest in not rewarding people who are trying to evade the enrollment process.

A student will have the same ID number. Even if gone for 3 years and then re-enrolls.

Officially, you must go to the school your were assigned to for that year. You may apply in Jan-Feb for Change of Choice for the *following year.* If you moved within Blair boundaries you will be approved.

You may file an appeal (or two) at any time to change schools, and it will be up to the Consortia say yes/no. Not the registrar, not the principal. It is not automatic until the following year.

--DCC former registrar, who knows from experience that registrars outside the DCC have no idea how this works

Distance learning. While we were un enrolled, we were at a private school.

That’s why I’m glad BCC isn’t in it. It’s a dumb process.

If my kid gets into a DCC school magnet program, they always have the right to return to BCC. But if a kid is in the DCC, realizes their home school is a bad fit, and the family actually moves to get into a better school, that won’t be honored if it’s in the DCC for another year — that family should have moved outside the DCC. That does not make sense, and I am glad that I am not a part of the consortium.

You mean mcps has a huge interest in punishing people that need to move. Everything is about mcps? No.
This is why mcps gets sued so much.

People move. Kids go to home school.
