Woman missing after reporting seeing a toddler on the highway

If there are any Michiganders reading they might remember this case:

https://www.clickondetroit.com/missing-in-michigan/2018/04/23/missing-in-michigan-paige-renkoskis-case-still-baffles-investigators-nearly-30-years-later/

This really haunted me because I drove that stretch often because I was a student at Michigan State. But it made me never stop on the side of a freeway to help anyone. I have called 911 when I saw people on the side of the road but have never stopped.

yep, the whole thing is really odd--

So she saw the kid, got off at the next exit, crossed the interstate, went back in the opposite lanes, got off again, crossed over again and cruised down the shoulder for 1/2 mile looking for the kid? ALL before calling the police?

The police arrived 3 min after the call so I don't think this would give her time to do all the looping around for the second pass. So she looped and started the second pass prior to calling. Who does this? It's odd. Again, most people would just call 911 right away.

Maybe she just wasn't sure what she saw because it was dark and she was driving fast?

Highway/Traffic cam video has been released

I see the one on the shoulder with the hazard lights but that's all. Is their video of the other stuff?

This is a terrifying story, but it’s not going to change my behavior. I would still stop if I saw a child in that much danger. I think many people would still choose the child.

That’s all. Apparently the highways there are not as well lit. TikTok has some good daytime coverage going. So whatever she saw she would’ve seen in just the headlights hence other drivers not seeing. The speed there at that stretch is about 75-80mph.

Motorists' dashboard cams pickup something on the peripheral edge that a driver may not notice (bc they're focused on the road and driving), but enough of a tip to rule out something?

The report I read is that the lady left work and picked up food. Curious if they can check security cameras to verify the timeline and also to see if there are anything dubious (people, fellow customers, other motorists, car following her).

+1. I don't know this area at all, but dragging a full grown adult off the highway and into your car is not something you do on a whim. I'm wondering if she was targeted from when she stopped to pick up food.

I would not stop. Calling 911, yes. Stop, no. Getting home safely to my family would be the highest priority.

She’s in the medical field and 25. Chances were she would stop.

It makes zero sense that an evil person would send a toddler out there in the almost pitch black as a lure in the off chance that someone would actually see the kid (driving 75 in the dark) and that person would be female and that person would circle back at the next exit.

This lady happened upon something bad already taking place and she became a further victim of the situation.

The odds are overwhelming that a man or even an police officer would have been the one to stop help the kid. What would the bad person do then? Ah, "nothing going on here officer. Just lost my toddler in the woods adjacent to a freeway"

I've read elsewhere that maybe she just unfortunately stumbled upon a trafficked child or some other criminal activity and thus had to be "removed" because she was a witness.

This is such a freaky case.

I was buying the trap theory, but you’re right, PP. It doesn’t seem logical.

I guess she ran into something bad and was attacked as a result. I still think she saw a child, so was a child being abused or something?

Agree with this, too?

God, this story is weird.

I agree this makes more sense.

Maybe, but then why wa sthe 3-4 year old alone? Its not that hard to manhandle/control a child that small, so why was the child loose and apparently unattended?

You can see her get out of the car and go around to the drivers side. Some people on websleuths say they can see multiple people in the video but I only see her. It does appear she does walk off away from her car.

I don't see her walk away, but from about 1:00 on look at the right side of her car and watch when her hazard lights illuminate the area. There does appear to be more than one person and then at 1:19 if you look to the right of the mile marker you can clearly see a light that to me appears to be a car door opening. I can make out what appears to be the outline of a car. I find it distressing to look at the moment she was abducted. Horrible.

I would be interested to know if this is slowed down footage. I was also not expecting a busy highway, but if these cars are actually going by at 55+ it makes sense that the other drivers would not have seen what was going on.
