Ah, OKM parent here. I don't like the flag on the shirts which we use a lot, because I believe that flags are for flags and not for clothing but whoever designs our team shirts seems to love them. We will stick out like a sore thumb in D1 because we don't have $$$$$$$$$$ and don't live in Mclean or Arlington or whatever. This won't be why. This is why i don't want to be with them And of course, we will lose more than we win, probably, so we won't bother you but for a year

| So interesting that Overlee gets so much hate and its the same parents (Nottingham) getting hate over on the APS board. |
DP That description seems like a typical t-shirt. Nothing controversial. Thanks |
I'll never tell
|
But remember it's not a neighborhood pool and they are recruiting future Olympians only to stack their team so it's not the same parents. Gotta be consistent at least when you trash them. |
HAHAHA. Well, I do know who designs the shirts
|
You know how DCUM feels about anything with a slight whiff of the LMC |
It's been a past 8 year thing for the swim team - moving up divisions every year. It didn't happen overnight. |
| There are a lot of over the top swim team parents and coaches at Overlee. One of the people running for the board made some statement about fixing the waitlist or our days as a division 1 team are numbered. Like a threat, as if it’s the worse thing possible. On my way out the night before a meet I saw an overlee swim team spirit sign and it’s resemblance to a penis could not have been accidental. |
This person is widely being made fun of for this statement. I think the nutters don't even know how they sound to most people. I agree some of them are bonkers but the whole team is not like that. Some of them are, no denial. |
Right. They started moving up when the team rep started. |
A “quality” team rep cannot affect how fast children swim but sure, keep patting yourself on the back there, mom. |
You're underestimating our team rep, actually! Our team rep added weekly winter swim which has made a difference. Also, we will see how well the other OKM parent knows me. 8-9 years ago I single handedly did something that probably also altered the trajectory course of the team and I probably don't get enough credit for it in terms of the rise in ranking But that's ok - I don't need too much credit. I do a real labor of love (still to this day), that has made a real difference enabling more kids to participate in the team. If you were then there, you'll know who I am. If I have been around longer than you, you probably take it for granted, and think this is the way it always has been, and don't know how big of a deal it was to start. (And the team rep also supported this change again - see how much we owe to the team rep - so I don't really take sole credit - I couldn't have done it alone). Now what I do at this point is a pretty well oiled machine and I fly somewhat under the radar these days. But it took a lot of hard work to get to this point.

PP here. Not an OKM parent, but we are at a nearby club that was in the same division or one division above them about 8 years ago. |
Their team rep is amazing and good coaching. But it is the membership of the pool mostly. The surrounding neighborhoods had a huge turnover so lots and lots of families with KIDS moved in as empty nesters moved out. |
