What is a word that you dislike and/or associate with negative things, when most people would not say the same?

Same with traumatized and terrorized.

Incentivize. It’s a made up word.

Yep. Have reached saturation point with this one.

Plus, it’s used to justify discrimination against groups of people based solely on the color of their skin. I am opposed to racism.

It’s also used to try to attain identical outcomes in academics, which is impossible.

What word would you use to describe integer chips, algebra tiles, etc? Manipulatives is the umbrella word for the category of objects.

I have a graduate degree in special education. "Manipulatives" did seem a bit much to describe "objects." LoL.

Concrete objects would probably be an accurate description of manipulatives.

I'm starting to dislike the word "therapy," since there is someone on DCUM who recommends therapy for every post. "You need therapy."

Yes, I need wine therapy. Music therapy. Massage therapy. Not talk therapy. LoL.

Yeah but when you are in a class and tell kids to use their manipulative to figure out a problem, isn't that easier than saying "get out your concrete objects?"

Life coach. Motivational speaker.

Most people don't do anything they don't want to do unless they face serious consequences. And they will do some really horrible stuff unless they face serious consequences.

Wow this is an incredibly dim view of humanity. I think most people will do things they don't want to do if they feel good after a job well done or feel guilty for not dong it. And most people will not do really horrible things at all. Is it just the threat of prison that keeps you from punching somebody in the face or embezzling from your employer?

Since I grew up on a farm with dairy cattle, it's an image I can't get out of my head when it's used.

I work in regulatory policy and I can't unknow this LOL

Narcissist. When I think of it I think of an actual narcissist who hurts and manipulates people, so it gives me this uncomfy feeling.

LOL me too!!

I love this thread. When I read the subject line I couldn't think of any words. But reading through the responses, I'm saying "yep" "yep" "yep" for practically every word that's been brought up. I especially don't like cohort either. To me it sounds like a partner in crime. Don't know why, but that's what I think of every time someone uses that.

thanks for a great light-hearted thread.
