Unexpected conversations

Please encourage your DD to make new friends, OP. My daughter (age 12) had a similar experience last year in 6th grade where a few kids called her "asexual" because she rolled her eyes about some dating drama. Literally she wanted to talk about something else and rolled her eyes because someone was monopolizing the conversation.

You have to realize that there's a huge spectrum in what is interesting to an 11 year old. Some are obsessed with dating, and gender/sexual identity/orientation and that's just fine. It's age appropriate. Some are interested in sports and movies and other hobbies. That's age appropriate too. Encourage your kids who are interested in the same things. My daughter has a completely different group of friends now, and she's much happier.
