I know one who did fine arts there!

I know one, too.
A high school art teacher now.
Not impressive.

So, you wouldn’t want your child to have a Yale-educated teacher?

Broadcasting / journalism—Syracuse
International work - Hopkins (even though they graduated a Russian spy recently)
Medicine - Rochester, Hopkins, Pitt
Business - UMD, Babson, Harvard, Stanford
Environmental - Allegheny, Juniata, Brown, Rutgers
Acting - Yale
Communications - Emerson
Public affairs - Syracuse, CMU
Marine biology - Eckerd and maybe URI

Anonymous wrote:Stanford used to impress me, especially for STEM. Not anymore. When a school gives out grades like this in almost every course

http://txti.es/stanford-grades-2020/images

and front ends it with holistic admission, diversity etc, you can't tell how good any student with a Stanford degree is anymore. I'm sure this is going on at Harvard and Yale too.

Now it's the flagship publics and a few hard to get into privates like Caltech, MIT,JHU, Princeton, Chicago where students have to really work hard to get A's that impress me.

Lol, Caltech and MIT have grade inflation. They're rigorous, but As are not hard to come by. MIT athletes have the highest GPA of any DIII program in 2022: "The sixth-ranked men's program finished the fall semester with a 3.82 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) to top all Division III teams followed by Williams (3.79), Johns Hopkins (3.76), Pomona-Pitzer (3.74), and Wash U (3.73)." And yes, this is recalculated from the MIT 5.0 scale.

Caltech in 2018- "The men's team pulled together an outstanding 3.63 GPA, once again good for the third-best cumulative GPA in Division III trailing only MIT (3.78) and Macalester College (3.71)."

Not impressive at all if got in Test Optional

I take major into consideration too. So Purdue Engineering is more impressive than say Brown Engineering.

The service academies, because, while they're certainly selective in admissions, their graduates go through a lot to successfully get through the programs. It's not just about what you accomplished in high school.

Substitute Princeton for Yale, and it's Michael Lewis, who has gone on to become a best-selling author.

So juvenile

It depends on the student. I am no longer impressed by U Mich, if the parents attended. The Ivies are so slated toward people who already have money, etc., it's not really impressive that some people get in. But for regular folks, it's impressive. NYU's screenwriting / playwriting - very impressive.

I wish! My kid was rejected from Syracuse despite a 3.9/4.4. Because I am a grown up, I can recognize Syracuse is tippy top for broadcasting even if they hurt me with their rejection.

I’ll add:

Architecture—Syracuse, Cornell, Cooper Union

For Architecture I'd first think VT and Cal Poly

That might be a little stretch, but certainly more impressive than Brown communications, psychology, journalism, etc.
It sounds like rich privileged ALDC kids cruising.
Purdue engineering sounds more serious.

Rich ALDC folks are trying to maintain their brand power, but I don't buy it.

Yes I'm result oriented.
best-selling author is very impressive regardless of any school.
duh

admission to some brand name colleges and majoring in some mediocre stuff is not impressive until displaying some impressive results.

USMA at West Point
USNA--Annapolis
USAFA--Colorado Springs

This, and surprised it took four pages before someone mentioned them.
