I think that one has since been cancelled. Would have been ugly.

That's too bad. There are benefits to these games for the sport and community. GP could go with second and third lines.

I think St Mary’s has a large roster and will likely play the entire team v Battlefield.

St Mary’s gets plenty of chances to beat up on private schools and play their whole roster. They beat Good Counsel 21-2. Would like to see the top public teams schedule more against the second tier privates. Yorktown/Heights was good. Many can play with Potomac, St Andrews, etc.

Prep didn't want 3 games in 6 days for their boys.

Langley was originally scheduled to play Churchill. Robinson and Langley are now playing each other and should be a good game.

Shouldn't be- Riverside lost 13 seniors and got beat by Battlefield in a scrimmage last week. They still have to play Severn which beat St. Albans already so that should be really ugly.

Good win for McLean. They may be able to give Langley some trouble. Yorktown looks pretty solid though.

Week of March 20 -2023 VA Boys 6A Rankings[u]

1. Madison (1-0)

Last Week: Def. Robinson 9-7

Analysis: Madison beat Robinson in a tale of two halves. The Warhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead and a 7-2 halftime advantage, but fizzled out in the second half as Robinson fought back. Madison looked good at times but maybe showed some weakness against Robinson’s pressuring defense. Madison has a long layoff and faces the Colorado Class 4 State Champs in an out-of-conference matchup next Saturday.

Up Next: Cheyenne Mountain (3/25)

2. Lake Braddock (1-0)

Last Week: Def. Centreville 13-0

Analysis: The Bruins cruised to an easy victory against a Centreville team that looked completely overwhelmed. Two easy games this week should leave Lake Braddock at 3-0 with a chance to grab the top spot if Madison slips up.

Up Next: South Lakes (3/28), West Potomac (3/31)

3. Battlefield (1-0)

Last Week: Def. Independence 13-2

Analysis: Battlefield crushed an Independence team that was supposed to be decent this season, but was instead in over their heads. Tough matchup this week against one of the best programs in the country. Not expecting much, but a good showing would be nice.

Up Next: St. Mary’s Annapolis (3/24)

4. Yorktown (1-1)

Last Week: Lost to The Heights 10-8, Def. Robinson 9-8

Analysis: The Heights is a much improved private school program and Yorktown held their own, losing 10-8. Yorktown had a battle with Robinson and came out on top in a physical and fiercely contested match. After a challenging start, Yorktown gets an easier week with two matchups it should dominate.

Up Next: Dominion (3/22), Centreville (3/24)

5. Robinson (0-2)

Last Week: Lost to Madison 9-7, Lost to Yorktown 9-8

Analysis: Robinson is not the team it was last season and lost two close ones to start things off. Still, they played both teams tough and appear to be one of the only teams that can challenge the top 4. The Rams’ brutal start is over with an easier matchup this week against South County to right the ship.

Up Next: South County (3/20)

6. Langley (2-0)

Last Week: Def. Oakton 8-7 (OT), Def. Westfield 8-7 (2OT)

Analysis: Langley beat Oakton and Westfield in overtime but should have beat both teams by much more and looked uninspired. Langley has eleven days off to figure out how to play with more intensity, and face a tough return with games against Patriot and Robinson the following week.

Up Next: Patriot (3/28), Robinson (4/1)

7. Patriot (1-0)

Last Week: Def. Hayfield 11-3

Analysis: Patriot took care of business against Hayfield, a team that is not historically great but beat South County last week. Busy week ahead with three games slated. Freedom matchup should provide a good gauge as to whether or not this Patriot team can compete this season, the other two games should be blowouts.

Up Next: Freedom (3/20), Colonial Forge (3/22), Mountain View (3/23)

8. Oakton (0-1)

Last Week: Lost to Langley 8-7 (OT)

Analysis: Lost a close one to Langley and looked decent enough to hold on to a spot in the Top 10. VMI commit was all over the place in the loss, playing almost every minute on offense and defense and notching multiple goals.

Up Next: Woodson (3/24)

9. Westfield (1-1)

Last Week: Def. Fairfax 5-4 (OT), Lost to Langley 8-7 (2OT)

Analysis: Two close games for the Bulldogs, one overtime win against a historically weak Fairfax team and a surprising double-overtime loss to Langley. Westfield’s goalie was incredible in the loss, racking up at least 20 saves and keeping Westfield in the game. They face a much improved Herndon team this week in what should be another close contest.

Up Next: Herndon (3/24)

10. McLean (1-0)

Last Week: Def. Chantilly 20-12

Analysis: McLean exploded for 20 goals against Chantilly, with scoring from all over the field. McLean has a chance to start out 7-0, but could also lose a few if they don’t tighten up on defense.

Up Next: South Lakes (3/24)

Honorable Mention: Freedom South Riding, John Champe, West Springfield, Herndon

Spot on, as usual!

I'm just confused on how WestPo is an easy game? Didn't they end LB season last year and lose to the champ by 1? What have they done/not done this year to be an easy W for LB.
Anonymous
LB is 2-0. Their AC game got rescheduled to last week. Believe they won 14-3.
