Should I force my 22 y.o. son to care about his appearance for work?

23 years old? Put his crap on the curb and change your locks.

If he is not adulting on his own, you are paying his bills, then yes, he needs a foot up the @ss. If he doesn't like it he can move out!

Why are you so angry?

You need to pay for his haircut and let him know that he has to start paying rent whether he has a job or not.

Sounds like you failed.

Give the kid money for a hair cut if they want it. Why in the world would you make them pay you back? What's wrong with you?

Thank you for this post. I was just about to write the exact same thing!

This is not true. And if it is explain how so many children who have come from nothing (e.g., drug addicted parents, poverty etc.) manage to escape and succeed. Should the meth-head mother take credit for her CEO son's success? Looks like another inexperienced parent of a six-month-old infant found their way to a thread they weren't invited to .

I agree. Parents of 6 in my very high-income neighborhood, all successful kids horrible parents. Mom high functioning drug addict only liked her babies, the house was filthy to the point you would want to vomit upon entering, the dad was a narcissist creeper, and yet all kids who graduated from Ivy League schools have jobs are fabulous people. When our children were younger I was naive and judgemental these kids will never amount to anything blah blah blah, I happily eat my words.
