You’re right. I looked up the guy I thought was the NTG coach and he’s actually the advanced seniors coach. He seems really great. |
Looked like some of the NCAP groups were indeed swimming outside over Christmas break. I find it bizarre that RMSC gets away with hogging up all the pool space in the county. |
Some groups are still outside for 4:30 am practice- for this they pay 7k??? |
Yes, it’s just as his are as the MCPS classrooms hogging up all the county school buildings |
Not the same, anyone can go to MCPS schools if you live in the county. Not everyone can swim for RMSC. See the difference? |
The problem is not RMSC the problem is that NCap has been in MD this long and not built itself a pool of its own on the MD side |
Reviving this thread as child is interesting in trying out for Prep- can anyone with experience please tell me what it is about the Gold coach there that led everyone to leave?
We don't know anyone in the group (new to area) and are trying to investigate TIA |
I was going to say the same thing. People will say that was long ago but those who knew are still there. |
NP and I know this is old, but I would actually prefer my kid swim outside in a heated pool. The pool they swim at now has really bad circulation inside and I worry about the chlorine damaging their lungs. |
9:56 am poster....anything on the Gold Prep coach? Anything? Bueller? |
Is your child young? If so, the Gold program will have itself sorted out by the time your kid gets there, as I think it’s widely believed the head coach will be leaving once his daughter graduates HS this year. Prep’s Bronze and Silver coaches are very good. There has been a lot of alluding to the problems in Gold, but no one has ever posted the details. |
Child is a fast 15 yo |
Agreed. I was a contemporary of Kelley Currin (different club thankfully) and I am nauseated by the short memories people have. |
If you are worried, why not look at other clubs or other NCAP sites? |
My swimmer is the same age as many of the kids who left, but we swim at another club. Some of these parents iof swimmers in that group are at my summer pool. I have heard from them and my swimmer has heard from swimmers who left. The complaints we have heard fall into three categories: (1) the practices are entirely structured for his daugher. Meaning he offers one set of intervals for her and if you can't make the interval, you just swim constantly, he doesnt tailor the practices to meet the needs of all of the swimmers, just his daughter. This is also true in terms of taper meets. Some kids in the group aren't qualified for the meets the fastest swimmers are gong to and there is no effort to construct their season so that they perform well at the right "big meet" for them; (2) he pushed kids to swim through injuries to the point that they injured themselves more-- oh, your shoulder is hurt, then you'll kick 8000 meters and hurt your hip; (3) he has badmouthed certain kids to college coaches thwarting their recruiting efforts. |
