swim parents: Why is NCap so expensive?

The bigger question is when he leaves after his daughter graduates, who takes over the Prep Gold program to re-build it. At this point NCAP-AU and NCAP-West’s Gold groups are considered to be much better.

Not true, you are required to volunteer for three meets or get charged $150 and ever since the pandemic you get charged per event per meet, just FYI

As an NCap parent I am annoyed with the coaching- some coaches are great, others are not, and its hard to switch between location and the administration doesn't seem to care a lick that there is such a huge disparity. I don't even know what the administration does other than charge you almost twice as much as RMSC (yes, I know we can switch and frankly we are seriously thinking about it)

Also I know that a ton of swimmers left the Prep site and don't know why and why the admin wouldn't care about that??????

The reason they left is the same reason “admin” doesn’t care.

None care if kids leave. They are replaceable.

Well, if no one is willing to move into the group, it’s an issue.

I’ve talked to families who know they’re only being invited bc numbers are so low and the kid doesn’t want to be in that group/with that coach. Or maybe they do belong at that level but aren’t willing to stay for all the reasons others left.

It's not an issue. Either kids move up or eventually, they will shut down the group if they have no swimmers.

Well to be fair the girls who stuck with him did quite well, but four stayed and close to a dozen left over the years so something was definitely wrong there. I agree NCap West is by far the best in all of NCap

I agree, I just don’t think that’s the same as “no one cares, they’re replaceable”

Shhhhh….don’t blow NCAP-West’s low-key excellence! In all seriousness, it’s fabulous from the Bronze 3 group through the Gold group. Coach Jeremy, Coach Bryce, and Coach Nicole are 3 of the club’s best coaches and we are are lucky to have them. The Bronze 1 coach at the Warrenton site is excellent too.

NCAP values the coach more than the swimmers. They don't care or they'd replace the coach. RMSC has some dud's too. One we had was horrible and so many kids quit because of how bad it was.

Like a lot of the workforce, swim teams are struggling finding good employees. They know they’d struggle finding a new coach, so they just can’t do it.

Curious how they will replace that zprep coach then- he’s Ledecky’s old coach. Bizarre how so many kids would quit that group. If he leaves who will coach the young kids coming up? The other site can’t absorb them.

The best coaches on the MD side are the bronze coach at Holton and Silver coach at Prep- both women. I wonder if they feel supported by NCap? It feels like an old-school team run by an ancient old guy. I’d agree West is the Best followed by Machine. All this extraneous NCap sites are just noise/moneymakers

I think you probably heard about their advanced senior coach. He has many national level kids. The national training group coach does not have the same reputation

The 2nd best girl in the group had a trials cut before she moved to train with him so not sure how much credit he deserves there.

They were miserable. And once one or two made the leap, others were empowered to follow. Of the kids left, I know for sure two are seniors, I think I know one junior and then I don't know who else is left. Will be interesting to see what happens.

There is more than one Gold group, I do not know if they all have the same coach.

The website still lists Gemmell as the head coach of Gold 1 and 2, but there is now a second coach listed for Gold 2 as well who was previously coaching in NC. He used to swim for Gemmell, so I would hazard a guess that he is there as a head coach in waiting.

He’s only been there for two years and is very young. That would be quite a quick rise. My vote for best Gold coach is Jeremy Lynn- wish we could move but man is it too far. So bizarre how it can be “one team” but so few of the kids know one another across training sites

The coaches at the Marymount site are really solid
