State schools with great merit aid for 4.0 student?

Anonymous
UVM has a calculator on its site - I think my DC figured out they would receive $20k merit with a 4.0uw and 1580 SAT (they didn’t apply). They are hoping for merit from IU and in the private college side, from Kenyon and Gettysburg.

Fwiw, they “only” got $10k/yr from Pitt with those stats.

Illinois State gives in-state tuition for 3.5 gpa or above and also additional merit scholarships.

Do a Google search for “merit scholarship chart.”

Where did you see that SUNYs give instate tuition for OOS?

Anonymous wrote:Anyone have recent experience with strong merit aid packages being offered at a state school? My daughter is a strong student interested in premed but we can’t afford privates and although she’s hoping private schools will give her merit aid, I’m not so sure. I noticed Arizona is offering very strong merit aid for out of state strong students, like 32K a year. Anyone have any others to recommend?.

Is she a National Merit finalist? At that academic level, most kids are. Check out the discussion groups on College confidential for that. UF was the highest ranking school to give full rides but that stopped last year I beleive (for out of state kids). Pls. check though. Some privates also give out good aid for NMFs - Northeastern, Miami, USC, etc. CC should have updated info.

Apply for the full-ride Jefferson Scholarship at UVA (you have to be nominated by your high school)

Not the PP, but SUNY this year announced tuition match for 8 other states (IIRC, this does not mean you get the NY in-state rate, but rather your state’s rate). Not sure if it applies to all campuses though.
We are in NY and DC will most likely choose a SUNY. We’re eligible for NYS tuition assistance program funds and they should get a small merit award.
The sticker price for in-state is $24k. Would love to get it down to 15!

My daughter was offered a full tuition scholarship to Northern Illinois, UIC and UIUC last year.

My DDs stats are a bit lower and her cheapest option right now is U of Mary Washington with the merit that came with the honors college acceptance. Our out of pocket there would be $16k

I’ve heard UMD gives little in merit aid (except for the big awards).

My above average student, but my no means stellar student, got a $3500 per semester scholarship to UMBC last year. A lot of her friends got the same offer. That made it extremely attractive. I honestly don’t know of anyone who got any money to go to University of Maryland. My daughter’s friends were just thankful they got in.
By the way, that $3500 scholarship required a 3.25 to keep it. Which is higher than any of the other schools. She didn’t choose UMBC. But it is getting more popular. Her friend there, who is in stem, said it’s really hard!

Just curious, where did she go?

I keep hearing about UMBC being a suitcase school so not very desirable for social life. Anyone know a family whose kid enjoys the school social scene? I hear great things about the professors.
