State schools with great merit aid for 4.0 student?

Don't know definition of "great", but we're happy. Applied and accepted to four OOS publics. CS (OSU only admits to engineering) major.
UMN: $25k/yr
Ohio St: $16.5k/yr
UMD: $10k/yr
Pitt: $0

We got these for CS
UNC: $0
UMD: $5k
Pitt: $5k

What about small privates? If your DD is premed it sounds like some of the less competitive SLACs might be snetter place to get the grades needed for med school. Others can weigh in but would a Wooster, Kalamazoo, St. Olaf, etc give good merit aid?

4.0 kids are a dime a dozen these days.

Assuming his RD reaches don't come through with acceptance (and $), I think UMD. Not as "adventurous" as he would have hoped, but have a great CS program. Despite proximity, I'm assuming we'll still never see him on weekends.

Interesting that got money from OSU and not Pitt. Last cycle, my DS got 20K/year from Pitt and $0 from OSU. Not CS major though.

Don't assume that small LAC's won't give her merit aid that brings the cost down to in-state publics. I am not talking T20, but schools between 30 and 80.

That was my DD's experience.

Experiment with their online Net Cost Calculators.

Pitt isn’t giving much money anymore, neither is Clemson.

VCU
UMBC
Kansas
SUNY
U Mass Lowell
Delaware

Do you have an idea of how much you could pay? If you need a full ride is different than if can pay 20k a year.

Does UVA give much (any?) merit for engineering majors?

What is your home state? Usually, merit aid at out of state publics cannot bring the cost down lower than your IN-STATE options. Obviously, when you start with OOS tuition, and then subtract merit aid... you are still looking at something as high or higher than In State Tuition/R&B.

That said, Alabama is one that is known for being GENEROUS for OOS students -- they have to import smart people in AL, I guess!

If you are in VA, you will get a pretty good deal at UMW. See the defined merit for grades/SATs: https://www.umw.edu/admissions/in-state-merit-scholarship/

The good thing about being pre-med at a smaller school is that you will have lots of opportunities to get to know the professors, and they to know you. And that's going to help with writing very solid recommendations for med school.

I'm the UMN scholarship poster. Virginia is our place of residence. Likely engineering major. After scholarship, COA to UMN would be $30 v $45 for UVA, $34 for Tech or $37 for WM.

Don’t major in engineering if you’re doing premed.
