State schools with great merit aid for 4.0 student?

OP, regardless of info you learn, most importantly, cast a very wide net. You will not be able to know for sure.

Pitt Honors college gives I think 40 full ride chancellors scholarships. UNC Chapel Hill has the morehead scholarship, but you need to be nominated by your school.
my 4.0 kid didn’t even get into UNC, let alone Morehead scholarship. Try Indiana or Clemson.

It all depends on your kid but no reason to not identify options, OP has not given us a lot. OP, there are a lot of privates that give merit and are also strong for pre med. Read The Price You Pay for College. That book was written for parents with OP’s question.

Agreed but to list UNC as one of the first options of OOS public to give merit is misleading. It is very, very difficult to get the Morehead scholarship. Of course try but super unlikely.

Hahaha, they didn’t give my 4.6, 1570 SAT kid a dime and DC had to apply for Honors acceptance, wasn’t given straight away with EA acceptance

OP here. Yes, we are in DC so no state schools here. But sadly we don’t qualify for any financial aid. We are in that weird place where our salaries are just slightly too high, but we aren’t really able to save much for college either.

Thanks for all the school suggestions..really helpful!

My daughter is a strong student interested in premed but we can’t afford privates and although she’s hoping private schools will give her merit aid, I’m not so sure. I noticed Arizona is offering very strong merit aid for out of state strong students, like 32K a year. Anyone have any others to recommend?.

Look out of state for best merit, specially schools in southern states.

DC got $20K a year merit from 2 awards last year.
