What are we going to do? My DD is graduating this year and we are moving out of state so we won’t have to deal with the awful crime.

Don't let the doors hit you on the way out

DP.. So, what happens if all UMC leave MoCo?

MoCo becomes more diverse, and even more desirable!

We’ll never run out of UMC earners to pay for stuff.

Considering 3 out of every 4 voters voted for him, you can just look at any random group of people and know that almost everyone there voted for him. Myself included. He's been fine for me.

Let’s all remember to be responsible though when we do relocate to places like Virginia and Frederick and not vote in politicians with MoCo-style politics. I know in Frederick they are working very hard to avoid becoming “MoCo Lite” and we should respect that!

Yes...move to Frederick for better leadership

He’s been better than the County Council. They’re abysmal.

It’s the same people who were anti-thrive, the majority of Montgomery county, and still voted for the same people who voted for it. In Montgomery county you could be a murderer and still be voted in as long as you’re a Democrat running against a R.

My youngest is a junior in HS. Just two more years and we plan to get the F out of MoCo.

believe me, even the doors do hit me, I really don't care. you may ok with your tax dollars being used in wasteful ways, but I wasn't.
There is no oversight which is why a couple county employees were caught stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars that we wont ever get back. The millions of dollars given to developers to build affordable housing that still isn't affordable. The amount of time coming up with ridiculous legislation and creating solutions to problems that don't exist. The schools, where my daughter is a straight A student yet she shouldn't be! so come on, you really want 4 years of this? Dig deep in your research and you will be just as surprised and frustrated as I was uncovering how tax dollars are used.

Bye Felicia

Ha ha. typical Elrich voter.

Step 2: Identify the issues that actually impact you personally, and speak to your elected officials about those issues.

Step 3: If it is so bad that you'd rather live in a more "balanced" jurisdiction, then move there. Personally I like places run by people who don't hate transgender people and support abortion rights, so I'm pretty thankful to be living here.

This is a new poster. PP, I am pro choice and support transgender people, but I don’t like to see my quality of life decline because the Council wants to give more freebies away. The entitlement mentality in MoCo is astounding.

I believe everyone should do what is best for them. You should not feel obligated to continue living somewhere that you don't like living in. Which is why Step 3 of my advice is to move if you would rather live somewhere else. I like living here. Knowing that, at least for the foreseeable future, I will not be subject to an abortion ban and everything that comes with that, and that my child will not be taught to hate transgender people, is a big part of that. Those things, to me, outweigh the fact that I think Elrich is a terrible county executive and is not fiscally responsible. You may make a different choice, and that's your choice to make.

Elrich has nothing to do with protecting abortion rights. That’s the state.
He has everything to do with whether you get good police, ambulance, and fire services. And the state can’t really help there. Unless it takes over stuff like it did in Baltimore City.

Montgomery County has lower violent crime rates than most other Maryland counties (https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiMDMxZjkzNDUtZTEyZi00MGNmLTkwMTUtMWEwNGVmZTdlMWZkIiwidCI6IjYwYWZlOWUyLTQ5Y2QtNDliMS04ODUxLTY0ZGYwMjc2YTJlOCJ9&pageName=ReportSection4)

You're right that Elrich does not have the power to protect abortion rights. Personally, I take a lot of factors into consideration in deciding where to live, not just who the County Executive. Montgomery County is a place where I anticipate abortion rights will remain intact, that is racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse, and that is unlikely to ever elect a school board that would ban "CRT" or teaching about LGBTQ+ issues. And, it's relatively safe, though yes, the recent increases in crime are concerning.

You can rest assured that MoCo will not have the money, certainly not from me.

No one’s leaving.

The top 50 taxpayers are responsible for a large part of our tax revenue each year, based on their capital gains. If they leave to any significant degree (ahem Dan Snyder), we will be hurting.

+1
I’m definitely not one of the top 50 taxpayers, but we moved out of Montgomery County last year. The current exec (Elrich) and the council was definitely part of our reasoning. I pay attention to these threads because one of our loved ones is employed by this county.

We left because the writing was on the wall. This council and exec don’t care about constituents. If they did, public safety would be #1 on all agendas. It’s not. Instead, Elrich and the council want to severely limit MCPD. So the county now faces exponential crime and limited resources. That’s the fault of local governance, many of whom just got re-elected.

It’s hard watching a train wreck in motion.
