Would you allow your almost 12yo to get second piercings?

Easily undone if she changes her mind about them later in life.

How does one unpierce?

You take the earrings out. They might close up, might not, but either way there’s no piercing without jewelry in it.

I’ve never heard of a piercing that did not eventually close up if you stop wearing earrings.

I had my ears double-pierced, and when I stopped wearing earrings in the second holes, they closed up pretty quickly.

+1

I could probably force an earring back into mine, but otherwise it's a tiny closed-up speck.

Some people’s close, some don’t. Hence “They might close up, might not”

Yes, I’d take my DD today if she wanted them. Honestly, it’s ears, who cares.

No. Nor first piercings. They should be older before they can consent to bodily mutilation.

Get a grip.

I tend to agree. It’s hardly bodily mutilation for a girl to get her ear pierced.

I will never wrap my head around why ear piercings/subsequent ear piercings are a sticky issue. It’s safe enough, not truly permanent, and I think jewelry is beautiful and fun. It just isn’t something where I would step on the toes of a child or teen and get in the way of bodily autonomy.

For what it’s worth, I am an adult with eight ear piercings. I usually don’t wear eight earrings at once. Styling my ears with nice earrings truly brings me joy, especially when I wear something that was a gift or has a memory tied to it. If that makes me trashy, so be it.

At 12? No. Wait until high school and see if she still wants them.

Not at 12. If she still wanted them later, I would disagree, but would let her pay for them.

Yes, I would. I wouldn't just run out and do it the same day she asked, but if it was a consistent request we would do it for a special occasion- birthday, good report card, etc...
