Would you allow your almost 12yo to get second piercings?

Easily undone if she changes her mind about them later in life.

How does one unpierce?

You take the earrings out. They might close up, might not, but either way there’s no piercing without jewelry in it.

I’ve never heard of a piercing that did not eventually close up if you stop wearing earrings.

I had my ears double-pierced, and when I stopped wearing earrings in the second holes, they closed up pretty quickly.

+1

I could probably force an earring back into mine, but otherwise it's a tiny closed-up speck.

ive gotten 2nd piercings twice- if you dont wear anything in them, they close up pretty quick. You dont usually wear dangly earrings that stretch the holes in the 2nd, just cuffs and studs so they close up. I actually dont wear earrings at all anymore and you can only see that my ear is pierced from one ear, the other one looks unpierced. Since I wear my hair out, you usually cant tell that I ever had pierced ears at all. Its not a tattoo and I am firmly in the nothing until at least double digits.

FWIW, my second holes (that I got at 18) never completely closed up when I stopped wearing earrings there. You definitely see the holes.

I don’t know how to feel about her getting them and thought I’d crowdsource. Also fwiw; we would go to a professional piercer, not Claire’s.

LOL. Mine had 3 in each ear by 7th grade. So yes. Not quite the production you are envisioning. Most people didn't even notice except for my DD.

Same, decades later. They do not close as much as some are saying.

Not my experience. Got mine in 6th grade. Stopped wearing them in grad school b/c of all the judgmental types and fears of job interview biases. Had them re-done in my 30s b/c those holes had sealed up tight.

No.

What?! I got a second hole in my ear at around 20ish and only wore an earring for maybe a few months. Decades later that damn hole gets a bump and has gunk in it routinely. I hate it!

This is the main thing I'd be concerned about.

Just compromise with letting her get a body piercing. Those are easily covered up by simple everyday clothing.

I see no problem with letting her get a second piercing. And- they are her ears so let her decide.

My mom paid for a double piercing at Claire's in the late 1980s. My husband is generally against ear piercing and made our oldest wait until age 10. I told her recently that any further piercings will come at her own expense when she's 18+.

Had a total of 4; one was high up on my ear.

All closed up now. Virtually no trace.

I have two sets of piercings in my lobes, pierced at ~2 and ~12. I haven’t worn any earrings in either set on more than maybe 10 occasions in 20 years and they haven’t closed up.
