Kids are never part of it. It’s for parents. |
Please don’t bring your kids. It’s not meant for them. If you don’t have a sitter have one parent watch while the other goes. If you are a single parent without a sitter ask the teacher to send out the presentation since you cannot make it. I’m an APS teacher and have never been able to attend since I am doing my presentation for my students. My husband can’t usually attend either so we just get the presentation to go through on our own. |
I’m gathering that. This should be noted somewhere and not needed to be discovered through the grapevine. When we were kids we were part of back to school night. We’d show our parents our classroom and visit with teacher. Then go to gym to hang out. Every kid was there. |
The calendar has been out for several weeks. Kids are never part of it. |
Yes. We saw the calendar as well. There is no detail of students being there or not. Many families have first year students. It would be helpful to have more info on that expectation of parents only. As we are grown ups as well we can navigate how to hire a sitter, the school should be more clear on this though. |
At our school the principal sent out the info and it clearly states BTSN is an adult-only event. |
That’s good. Which school? |
Ours was via the teacher. Simply listing date and “more info to follow”. Nothing has this far followed. Which I get as they’re probably overwhelmed, would have served well to include then. |

Campbell’s email also explicitly said no kids but they are also offering one in person and one virtual session at each grade level so you can just log in for the virtual if you can’t find childcare. Parents had a chance to see the classroom at open house a week ago.0 |
I agree it should be clearer earlier on. Our school tells people it’s for parents only, but only a week in advance (or less). When my first was in K, I had no way of knowing that far enough in advance to plan for it. |
It’s very common for new parents not to get this info and find out last minute and then scramble for a sitter or just bring their kid. Happens every year. They should really make it very clear early on. |
Taylor’s PTA email is crystal clear on the point as well. There’s also a happy hour afterwards for interested parents. |
Interesting. Because we had BTSN in the 80s when I was in school and kids never went then either... |
ATS stated adults only in weekly newsletter. |
