Are the elementary back to school nights in APS for parents and students or just parents? I'm trying to procure more info to plan but haven't been successful. |
Just parents. |
Just parents. Mine are in MS now but our ES used to let you bring the kids to hang out/play in the cafeteria/gym with supervision from the extended day staff so we didn't have to get a sitter. |
Just parents but every now and then a kid would be there, probably because the parent could not get a sitter. |
Just parents. Get a sitter and go out for drinks afterwards. |
I’ve seen kids there before, some parents like having the child present. |
Our school specifically said parents only |
Some people don’t understand basic social expectations and propriety. |
I’m 7 years, I’ve only seen one kid at an APS back to school night. |
Please let this be online… |
Every year (prior to covid) our school said parents only. And every year, there would be people who brought their kids. If it is in person this year, I am sure it will be no different. |
There are always kids there. |
Ours is in person (not sure if there is also an online version). |
The open houses before school starts are for children and parents to meet the teachers, see the classrooms and so on.
Back to School night in APS is for parents. There's often a prerecorded video from the principal, the teachers will walk through the curriculum, often there's separate time to do a quick meet and greet with the school counselor or RTG or specials teachers. Some schools especially in lower SES areas have childcare available since they know parents might not be able to come otherwise. Every now and then you'll see a parent with a kid or two in tow but it is an event for adults. |
What does SES have to do with whether or not people have childcare? There are high SES areas with two working parents that also could benefit from childcare - it isn’t always easy to find a babysitter and not everyone, independent of wealth, has a nanny on demand. |
