What do you want to see in S5 of The Handmaid’s Tale?

Ok, now SPOILERS for those who have watched!!!!

$88!! I laughed so damn hard. “I have to pay a fine. Online.” Ha! That was absolutely brilliant. I had to pause to give that scene the full appreciation it deserves.

Putnam and the chocolate. Jesus, that made me cringe. I hope we get to see his death on screen.

Esther…oh man. Saw it coming, and I have very mixed feelings about Janine. Her character basically went full circle back to where she started and that was disappointing. I wanted to see her do something to rebel on her own, not because another handmaiden dragged her into it. I get that she’s a survivor, but there are many ways to survive. Her character found that one way and that was it. I wish they would’ve done more with her. She’s a phenomenal actress.

Finally Luke has the motivation he needed to do something about Hannah other than wait patiently in Canada. Now on to Gilead to kick some ass!

I only watched the first episode - late last night - and...I hated it. Was bummed that I stayed up late for so much nothing. It was literally June, Serena, and Tuello moving from location to location. Too many close ups of June's face. I don't understand or buy the motivation for the bunch of women, including Emily!, to want to go back to Gilead. They aren't special forces, come on.

I am sure I will keep watching, but I think we may formally be in shark-jumping territory.
I think they jumped the shark a long time ago. I’m just here to see Gilead fall. If it doesn’t end with that (or at least implied with an actual invasion) I’ll be pissed.

PP here. I am caught up with the second episode. That was so much better. That first episode was a waste of time. They should not have bothered. They could have worked everything in that first episode into flashbacks later in the season. I am actually kind of pissed, TBH. Now we are back in business.

The question of why go back: answered. Serena's classic maneuvering, done. Tuello trying to recruit a new spy, done. Putnam being Putnam, ew, but done.

I'm still not sure what I think about Esther. Obviously she's destructive and somewhat dangerous. Aunt Lydia is clueless as ever, thinking she's going to win. You'd think literally getting stabbed in the back by Emily would have taught her something.

I'm very happy to see Rita and would like it if they could find more to do with her, with the exception of her going back to Gilead.

I still miss Alma and will never forgive, sorry Bruce Miller and Elisabeth Moss.

I agree the second episode was better than the first. However, I think we now know what the rest of the season is going to be - gives an excuse to put the characters back in Gilead and for June to do more “vengeance face”.

Are we supposed to know Nick’s wife?

Agree with first episode being a total waste and the end of the second was much better. Too much focus on being ‘artistic’ and not moving the story forward. Why did Nick and Commander Lawrence support Serena in getting the funeral
broadcast? Can never tell what side they are on.

OMG…the entire first episode felt like nothing more than close-ups of Jane’s face!!!

Is this season going to just be her downward spiral into darkness? Will there be a redemption arc for her? This just seems stupid. She was supposed to be stronger—a survivor—not bananas.

And why did they have to drag that beautiful song by the Everly brothers into both opening shots? It’s not a song she would even know based on her age.

And not just close-ups of her face, but of her fluttering "distress" eyes. Ugh. I watched the whole thing thinking poor Elizabeth Moss, whomever directed her in this episode is an amateur, and then guess what? She directed the episode!!! LOL!

I only saw the first episode and I agree. Plus all I kept thinking is wash the blood off your hands and face!

The close-ups are a staple of the show. I still hate them, but I got used to them a long time ago.

I don't think so. Apparently there was a "Rose" character in Season 3 (I googled) who briefly meets June in the hospital when June is visiting the walking partner handmaid that she got shot and Lydia makes her stay in that handmaids hospital room. I guess it could be the same character, but they'd have to remind us of that moment. I had no memory of it.

That was a fascinating scene though. Doesn't seem like they've been married long, but she seems to know an awful lot of Nick's secrets.

DP. I really hope they show us more of Nick’s wife/marriage soon. She clearly knows everything about him and June, which would be incredibly dangerous for him unless he has good reason to believe she would never betray him. I really hope she turns into a more significant character.

At one point in the last season they were showing Serena’s more human side. I thought she was going to become a good character. But now it just seems like she’s pure evil as well.

The eye fluttering was awful, I noticed too.

It's overdone, yes. Overly artistic, melodramatic.

I do think Serena is going to get kept by Gilead, her baby taken, and turned into a handmaid.

Literally every character on the show is more interesting than June. I want to see more of them.

Yes they are definitely taking that baby and they have nothing else for her except handmaid. She wouldn’t be a good Martha. Why would she go back???

I wish June would go away. She's annoying and a bad actress.
