Is Vienna snobby?

do you have tattoos?

I do not. But lots of people do. I don’t care one way or the other. Live and let live. Tattoos hurt no one but the person while getting it.

They make delicious sausages served in quaint tin cups.

Vienna isn't rich enough to be snobby about. It's like a second tier liberal arts college, lol. Sure, folks there have money, but not what it takes to go first tier like McLean or Bethesda.

If you're trying to avoid snobbery, I'd find out where PP lives and avoid that location...

HAHA yea.

Vienna has money but people are not snobby like mclean and bethesda. I swear the vast majority of people live there because of the title and nothing more. people have money in vienna and live there because of all the shops, activities and neighbors.

Yeah, the fact that Bethesda and McLean have nicer houses and better schools (both public and private) and are closer to DC has nothing to do with it.

Vienna does have more fast food joints if that’s important to you.

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/viennatownvirginia/PST045221

Median HHI in Vienna is $168k while HHI in Bethesda is $172k. It is really absurd to claim Vienna is significantly less wealthy than Bethesda.

Quoting HHI stats has nothing to with whether the schools or houses are nicer. Chevy Chase has much nicer houses than Great Falls but the HHI in Chevy Chase might be less because the houses are on smaller lots. Vienna doesn’t have neighborhoods even close to as nice as Battery Park in Bethesda or a public school as well regarded as Whitman. Let’s not even get into comparing private school options. You don’t want to compete with Sidwell Friends, Holton Arms…

Ill sit and compare vienna to mclean but when you start to talk to Maryland, you already lost me. Its filled with a bunch of "phony" left wing fear mongers (they are all actually republicans but too scared to admit it in public), high dumb taxes on income and totally not worth all the crap that comes with living there.

Vienna is a little less wealthy than McLean, but still more affluent than Oakton, Fairfax, Annandale, Herndon, Reston, Sterling etc.

For those who can't afford McLean, Vienna is a solid next best option. Educated and affluent neighbors, good schools, lively community feel.

My family moved to Vienna in 2021 and haven't found it snobby at all. We are a fed/non-profit dual working couple with two small kids. Our neighbors are lovely. We're very social and have loved our new home.

Maybe we'll see some of the snobbishness once our kids hit grade school.

Yes, very common mindset for certain people.

Anonymous wrote:Sorry, Vienna just isn't on the radar for people who are actually snobby and social climbers with $$$. Once they have the $$$, they'd be looking to buy a new McMansion in Mclean/Bethesda or something more urban (if they are into it) before looking into Vienna. And for those who aren't social climbers, they are just looking for what's convenient to where they have to be daily (commutes, or family, etc) and lifestyle. And I do not disagree that there are people with $$$ in Vienna, and there are nice homes, it's just not the attraction for the true snobs. I think some people confuse snobs with those who are cliquey and maybe a bit smug about being happy with their circumstances and patting themselves on the back for making the right choices for themselves.

agree. I live in Vienna and I enjoy my family life here. People in this town are very nice, yet not interesting or urban or very liberal.

and don't forget there are also tons of granny houses in Mclean worth much less than the new McMansions in Vienna priced around 2million. Not all the Mclean residents are $$$ and social climbers.

Hahaha!
Like the potted meat, everyone is crammed in their rabbit hutch.

Also, there's the local celebrity, Senator Hawley. ✊

It’s not that affluent and it definitely isn’t close-in to DC. But if you don’t mind congestion, commuter hell, and a ton of families with very narrow interests, it’s probably better than living in Herndon or Ashburn.

Vienna resident here, please do enlighten me, what are my narrow interests?

How have i lived so far, without realizing you could mansplain it to me.

How far do you have to drive to see a play, concert, or a foreign or art house film? Now ask the same question of someone who lives in Bethesda, NW DC, or Silver Spring and you’ll see PP’s point about narrow interests, lack of culture, etc.

Less than 10 minutes
Capitol One Hall
Wolftrap
Mosaic

While you may have to go to places to watch culture. I just hang out with my neighbors that are from all over the world. My kids play cricket with neighbors and I’ve learned how to grow some interesting varieties of vegetables from SE asia from another neighbor.

+100 I live and am raising my kids in TOV and I love it because it reminds me of the small town, inclusive community that I grew up in.
