| Reading the Bethesda thread in the money forum and was curious about the perception of Vienna residents. We are looking to buy here and am curious if Vienna too is filled with shallow and entitled people? |
| Vienna isn't rich enough to be snobby about. It's like a second tier liberal arts college, lol. Sure, folks there have money, but not what it takes to go first tier like McLean or Bethesda. |
| No but they can be cliquey. People love living in Vienna, so as long as you get involved whether that be through your kids schools, activities with other adults your age, etc you’ll be fine. Many people grow up in Vienna and move back. It has a lot of traffic but also somehow has a small town feel in the middle of Northern Virginia. |
| Lived there over a decade. Good place to live but it can get boring. There's a "don't rock the boat" and "keeping up with the Jones" mentality. There's a big premium on being nice, but not necessarily interesting. |
If you're trying to avoid snobbery, I'd find out where PP lives and avoid that location...

I live in Vienna and I agree with this. |
| No. Not snobby. But neighbors seem to really care about our business. Big emphasis on sports for kids. |
lol wut. Bethesda and Vienna median HHI is virtually identical |
|
Meh. I dated a divorced parent from Vienna who trash talked Silver Spring and Reston as being the worst places to live. They also put a premium on their Nespresso machine and their Bose sound system to the point it was part of their divorce agreement. They were the epitome of snobby. I found them to be a snooze.
On the flip side, I have great friends who live in Vienna who are not snoozes or snobby. |
HAHA yea. Vienna has money but people are not snobby like mclean and bethesda. I swear the vast majority of people live there because of the title and nothing more. people have money in vienna and live there because of all the shops, activities and neighbors. |
| Not snobby, but they certainly feel that they are special. |
| My kids went to a private school in Vienna/Oakton area and no, I wouldn’t say they’re snobby. However, people are pretty nosy and in your business. As far as money, our school built a new 25 million dollars middle school from donation from less than 1100 students’ parents in less than 3 months. 10 million was donated by just one family. |
Take it from this person! Vienna peeps either don’t have the money for McLean or want to avoid people like this poster. Not rich enough? Second tier liberal arts college? Blah. Tell me you are new money/care about how you are perceived without telling me you are new money, etc. |
Wait you mean you can’t make assumptions about people based on zip code? That might be too much for DCUM to comprehend PP. |
I think that’s more for TOV vs Vienna in general. I’m actually happy my kids are not slated for Madison. It can be a little cultish. |
